Chef Paul Finlay – won the Van Mag award for best of Richmond a few times for his work at Gudrun, where he over achieved with a tiny kitchen set up
At the Magnet we wanted to emulate that very special brewery tasting room feeling: open, sociable, spacious, & airy, with casual counter service.
We understand nothing will ever replace the magic of visiting your favourite local brewery, of course, but we wanted to bring the best things about the brewery experience & just up the ante a wee bit.
With this in mind we decided to put a great deal of thought & energy into the kitchen set up. Our food menu is understated but should not be over looked.
Our aim is to bring some honesty, originality & imagination to the usual pub fare. Everything is prepared from scratch. None of that ever so predictable pre-prepared junk that the big suppliers push (which we admit can be tasty & satisfying at the right moment!), it’s just not where we’re coming from. We make pies fresh daily, we serve wicked sandwiches, creative share plates, ever changing entrees, daily specials, vegan options, a bad ass burger & the unsung heroes of our menu, tasty desserts.
To compliment the food we offer 30 or so taps dedicated to craft beer & cider. Plus another six custom cocktails on tap, prepared & kegged with love at Odd Society & Resurrection Spirits. They’ve done all the finesse work at the source so we can pour excellent quality cocktails quickly & efficiently for you at the counter. Watch this space as we add some barrel aged cocktails to our expanding “stiff drinks” program.
