by Michelle Sproule | I didn’t think the dreariness of winter was far enough behind me to even begin considering Fall fashion until I attended the Obakki Fall/Winter 2011 premiere. Now I can’t wait. The collection – rolled out on a runway at atmospheric St. Andrew’s – lived up to preliminary, teasing descriptors like “playfully dark”, “ethereal” and “haunted”. The colour palette was sexy but grounded, primarily focused on neutral tones of bone and antique white with accents of garnet red, umber brown, petal and sage. Models floated in mohair and angora, Japanese lace and Italian silk. From the beautifully designed clothing to the lighting, hair and makeup and soundtrack, every carefully procured detail was dead on. The buzz in the crowd afterwards was that Obakki had nailed it (great choice of venue, too). “We’ve launched a collection that combines nostalgic romance with a distinctive modern edge” said Treana Peake, founder and creative director of Obakki. “It’s luxurious and wearable while maintaining a timeless composition.” We took a few pictures before, during, and after the show (and after after at Boneta)…
