Barnholden’s “Mis Trucos” Now Open In Davie Street Village…

Bartender Jonathan James, owner/chef Kris Barnholden, and GM Eryn Dorman rejoice upon opening Mis Trucos

Former Parkside sous chef Kris Barnholden has just opened his first restaurant, a Mediterranean-themed tapas joint called Mis Trucos (“My Tricks”) at 1141 Davie (the old Davie Village Cafe location). Scout broke the news of its coming back in early June:

The 1000 sqft location, which is not without its challenges, was picked up in May. Barnholden is aiming to give it 60 seats with a 6 seat bar and a 25 seat deck out back. It’ll be induction cooking mostly (no hood), and tapas plates will be priced between $4 to $8; sharables in the neighbourhood of $10 to $16; and specials in the same range. “Nothing will be over $20?, he says.

The all Spanish and Portuguese wine list will see six reds, six whites, and six roses, all by the glass at prices that will range from $6 to $14 (wine guy Kurtis Kolt from Salt Tasting Room is helping him out on this score).

Barnholden is hoping that Mis Trucos will have the Davie Village Cafe’s 2:00am liquor license grandfathered in, which would be pretty dang sweet. A late night tapas joint. Go figure.

They have the 2am license, but they’ll be closing at midnight in the short term (from 5pm, closed Mondays). View their menu here once you’ve scrolled down and clicked around the before and after shots…

Looking good, no? We wish them all the best in upping Davie’s culinary game, and look forward to a proper test drive in the coming weeks. Break a leg, Kris!
