VANCOUVER DETAIL #281: There Is A Gigantic Sundial On The Roof Of Tinseltown

What the hell is this for? The top image is from Reddit and the bottom one is from a local realtor who writes:

This picture was taken from my studio listing at The Taylor located at 550 Taylor Street. So this picture was taken from the 20th floor. The building to the left of the picture is the Europa building at 63 Keefer Place. This view is looking West over the roof from the East.

If you look closely, it’s WTF o’clock.

EVERYTHING SEEN IN VANCOUVER

  1. There are mentions of it online going back about four years, along with allegations that it doesn’t work because it “wasn’t built for Vancouver” or some such thing. That said, it certainly seems to be aligned properly to true South on satellite photos. We need a webcam to confirm that, of course.

Now forget the sundial. What’s with the light-up stars that can’t be seen from anywhere but the surrounding condos?

  2. Another neat detail… the atrium area (the curved canopy when viewed from the air) is the path that the CPR diversion used to take. Follow it all the way down to the water on Google Maps…
