“I Mean, What Are They Gonna Say, Man, When He’s Gone, Huh?”

The legendary Dennis Hopper (actor of Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet fame) has died at the age of 74. I loved him dearly. In my limited opinion, the best part he ever played was himself in the cult show Fishing With John. I’ve posted the episode in its entirety after the jump. Feel free to weep…

Rest in peace, genius.

  1. Legend has it that his part in “Apocalypse Now” was originally that of a clean cut Green Beret, but that when he arrived in the Jungle he was so wasted/high that they had to rewrite the role, on the spot. Hence he became a reporter who had lost mind, that sort of bumbles around making no real sense. Supposedly they simply put him in front of the camera and he just rambled on…..RIP

  2. Hollywood only has a handful of actors who are truly original. There are only a few who can make anything interesting. Gary Oldham.
Benecio Del Toro. Ian McKellen. Vincent D’Onofrio and Christopher
    Walken. Dennis
Hopper, whose pot-addled Billy in Easy Rider and psychopathic Frank
Booth in Blue Velvet helped put the icon in icono…clastic. RIP well dressed man…

  3. I looked up that episode of Fishing with John as soon as I heard the news. When you see him in that show you realise that he was never really acting in any of his movies, he was just being himself. He truly was a genious. He will be missed

  4. Great supporting role in Rumble Fish w/Mickey Rourke & Matt Dillon…touched a nerve many years ago! Brilliant under rated filmaking & a certain kind of “generational” acting to be reckond with!
