Cinco de Mayo fundraiser at Hy’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar to benefit the John Aisenstat Memorial Scholarship

The Goods from Hy’s Steakhouse

Vancouver, BC | On Thursday May 5, Hy’s of Canada hosts a Cinco de Mayo fundraiser at Hy’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar to benefit the John Aisenstat Memorial Scholarship. For $50 per person, supporters will enjoy premium tequila and savour delicious hors d’oeuvres knowing 100% of proceeds will support future industry leaders.

The youngest son of restaurant founder Hy Aisenstat, John was an ardent supporter of continuing education and strongly believed in encouraging young stars within the industry. After his passing in 2018, the John Aisenstat Memorial Scholarship was established by John’s brother, Neil Aisenstat, Hy’s Chief Executive Officer, and Megan Buckley, Chief Operating Officer. In honour of John’s lasting contributions to the industry, the scholarship is awarded annually to a student of the culinary or hospitality arts at Vancouver Community College (VCC).

“John was well known for his passion for hospitality — a business he literally grew up in,” says Neil Aisenstat. “He was always an enormous supporter of our staff, and of the need to attract new talent in an increasingly competitive world. This partnership with VCC allows us to honour his legacy and to support and encourage the young talent that represents the future of the industry.”

“John was a consummate restaurateur and a well-respected figure among his peers,” says Buckley. “John’s approach to life was defined by humility and generosity and he would be so proud of this scholarship and the spirit of investing in the future of our industry.”

Everyone is welcome to join the event on May 5 from 4-6pm at Hy’s Steakhouse Vancouver. Tickets can be purchased online HERE or with limited availability at the door.

Hy’s of Canada also funds the Hy Aisenstat Memorial Endowment at Simon Fraser University. This endowment provides financial support to high-acheiving students returning to school from the workforce.
