Special Night of Fine Aged Rum, Music, Mexican Fare Planned for Gastown’s La Mezcaleria

The GOODS from La Mezcaleria

Vancouver, BC | On Monday 16th of December, La Mezcaleria Gastown (68 E Cordova) – in partnership with Flor de Caña Rum – will be hosting an amazing night of fine aged rum, live Latin music and, of course, mind-blowing Mexican fare all in the name of charity. Due to government cutbacks, funding to assist families with children diagnosed with down syndrome has been drastically slashed, leaving parents – particularly those in rural areas – facing serious challenges, especially when their children reach school age.

When beginning school, most young children with down syndrome require full time, one on one care and specialized assistance – a requirement that sadly cannot be provided by the government. Many families face gruellingly long waitlists for adequate support, leaving their children with a distinct disadvantage in social skill development. These waitlists are much, much longer for families living away from large cities. Nina Mae and her family currently live on Salt Spring Island and with Nina almost old enough to start Kindergarten, they need your help. Proceeds for the Nina Mae trust will be raised during the evening through the sale of specially crafted cocktails using Flor de Cana Fairtrade Rum and an extra special range of tacos bursting with authentic Mexican flavours. La Mezcaleria will generously donate $5 for every Flor de Cana cocktail and $2 for every taco sold to the Nina Mae Trust. Prize draws will be held throughout the evening with prize packs including; unique rum experiences, gift cards to local restaurants and Vancouver Warrior tickets, all donated by businesses in the Gastown area.

As an extra special treat, La Mezcaleria will be hosting live music provided by the immensely talented La Banda Cubana de Julio Avila, an incredible trio of Cuban musicians who will sweep you away to Latin America from 7pm till midnight! The event will not be ticketed. All are invited to come and enjoy an evening of incredible tacos, cocktails, music and prizes while helping a family in need this holiday season.

ABOUT LA MEZCALERIA | Founded in 2013, La Mezcaleria serves truly authentic Mexican fare inspired by the different regions of Mexico. Using organic, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, the restaurant offers approachable and shareable dishes such as ceviches, quesos fundido, grilled seafood and meat parrilladas, and homemade ice creams in inventive flavours like avocado and orange mezcal. Casual and hip in its look and feel, the eatery is also known for its innovative bar program, which uses a diverse selection of high-quality and hard-to-find tequilas and mezcals, savoury ingredients such as serrano pepper and blue corn, and one of the largest agave lists in Vancouver. Lunch and dinner service is offered daily, and a brunch menu of Mexican-style Bennies and other plates is available on weekends. Live music takes place on select nights, helping to establish La Mezcaleria as one of the city’s most happenin’ spots. La Mezcaleria operates two locations: Commercial Drive (1622 Commercial Drive) and Gastown (68 East Cordova Street). For more information, please visit www.lamezcaleria.ca.
