Front of House General Manager Position Available at Strange Fellows Brewing

Vancouver, BC | As the General Manager of the tasting room at Strange Fellows Brewing, you will be responsible for managing and operating the tasting room and retail area of the brewery, including:

– Lead by example as a working manager in our tasting room. Be a leader to others as well as a source of positivity and energy for the room
– Manage and motivate staff along with rationalize any issues/challenges that may come up on a daily basis
– Convey core brand messages and ideals to staff, customers and patrons of the business
– Open and close the tasting room as needed, along with all duties required therein: Cash-in, cash-out, dealing with customers, ensuring opening/closing duties are completed, handling refunds and discounts
– Running reports for tasting room on a daily basis and conveying this information to the rest of the managers via WhatsApp
– Handle customer inquiries relating to tasting room, retail area, special events, art gallery, brewery tours and any other information requested
– Handle all service contracts associated with this space; including, bar towels, equipment contracts, service contracts, cleaning, repair, etc. on an as needed basis
– Do the right thing for the business at all times. Service with a smile and go above and beyond at every opportunity
– Help manage our in-house food program, along with the relationship with Tacofino, which includes ordering supplies, managing inventory, and keeping on top of trends
– Work closely with production, marketing and administrative teams to ensure the tasting room is aware and prepared for different initiatives and events throughout the year
– Taking the lead on hiring, managing, promoting, disciplining and dismissing all employees in the tasting room
– Onboarding new hires and roll-out/train staff on new company initiatives
– Create monthly schedules and ensuring that tasting room is properly staffed for all day parts and sales volumes
– Drive sales and marketing initiatives to build business in the tasting room

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

It is expected this person will be educated with at least a college diploma, and have experience working and managing a bar. This person should understand the hours involved and demands associated with managing staff, running a bar and being a general manager of a tasting room.

– Serving it Right certification
– Foodsafe Level 1 certification
– Standard First Aid certification
– Valid driver’s license
– Understanding of Microsoft Office: Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills and Expectations:

As the FOH manager, you will be expected to have a regular presence in the tasting room and retail area, especially at the busier times. It is expected this person will be available for full time hours, in addition to helping with other small duties that may arise both in the front and back of house.

Specifically, the skill-set our manager will have includes:

– An ability to work in a small, team focused environment, often directly with the owners
– A keen ability to communicate and convey ideas and feedback in a positive and constructive manner
– Experience with POS and reporting needed to manage a bar
– Able to train others for various positions
– Ability to take direction while working independently and collaboratively
– Trustworthiness, honesty, and humility

Start Date: December 1, 2019 or sooner if possible
Remuneration: Commensurate with experience
Reporting to: Nick Black, Iain Hill & Aaron Jonckheere
