Timber & BASH Gear Up for Canada Day Ball Hockey Tournament in West End

The GOODS from TIMBER

Vancouver, BC | The Canada Day Ball Hockey Tournament hosted by Timber Restaurant and benefiting BASH (Britannia After School Hockey) returns on July 1, 2019. This street hockey event in Vancouver’s West End (Jervis Street & Robson Street neighbouring Timber) celebrates the love of the game for five hours of scrimmage match-ups, skill-building exercises and an exciting finals game to crown the 2019 champions.

The 2019 team roster includes four spirited teams: West Coast Canning, Timber & Forage, BASH (coaches and youth from the program) and Cutting Edges. Running from 12PM (noon) until 5PM, the teams play rounds of 15-minute games surrounded by bleachers set up for family-friendly spectating. Everyone is welcome to participate in the skills exercises offered between games three times throughout the afternoon (12:40PM, 2:05PM, 3:45PM).

Neighbouring the ball court, at an outside grill Timber will serve up their classic bison burgers. Proceeds from participant entry fees go to support BASH, an inclusive after-school program for youth interested in playing ice hockey, run by Britannia Community Services Centre. From skates to hockey tape, this free program provides youth (ages 12-17; all genders) with the equipment and access to coaching and ice-time needed to play. Players and the public are also encouraged to bring kid’s hockey equipment to the tournament where donations for the BASH program will be collected.

The success of free recreation programs helps at-risk youth find healthy ways to socialize. “Sports helped keep me on a good path,” says Cam Andrews, co-founder of event (and organizer of the Beer League Bash in April, another BASH fundraiser).

The Canada Day event provides opportunities for people to participate in a community service and give to a good cause.

“The admiration I have for this pure form of community spirit welled up inside me while I was watching the kids play,” says Margot Baloro, co-founder of the event and Front of House General Manager Timber & Forage. “Watching kids get a chance to do what they love is the best feeling in the world” and this is why we created the Canada Day BASH Hockey fundraiser event.

ABOUT Timber | “Givin’ er” since 2015, Timber is Vancouver’s authentic Canadian casual pub-style dining experience. Located at the gateway to Vancouver’s West End near iconic Stanley Park, Timber pays tribute to British Columbia’s rich timber history and the tough people who built this “True North Strong & Free” one two-by-four at a time with its laidback design and hearty menu. The menu reads like a roadmap of Canadian comfort food incorporating ingredient-driven favourites, such as deep-fried cheese curds, bison burgers, rotating local craft beer taps and signature Caesars.
