Kitsilano’s Cacao Fires Up Latin American-Style Barbecue on Saturdays

THE GOODS FROM CACAO

Vancouver, BC | Vancouver’s premier destination for Latin American cuisine is introducing a weekly barbecue menu every Saturday from 11am, starting May 18 and continuing throughout the summer.

The set menu will include a variety of barbecued dishes prepared Parrillado Asado. A traditional asado usually consists of a variety of meat dishes, which are all cooked on an open fire grill, or parrilla. The barbecue will be set-up on Cacao’s sidewalk patio every Saturday afternoon.

“Vancouverites love a good barbecue,” says Cacao executive chef Jefferson Alvarez. “Which is perfect, because Latin Americans love it too. In Venezuela where I’m from, and in other South American countries, we make a big mixed meat platter and then add a number of grilled sides and sauces to go with it. The meal is enjoyed family-style.”

Cacao’s asado will include steak, morcilla (blood sausage), chorizo sausage, chicken, a side of veggies with yuca frita (yuca fries) and a selection of sauces, including chimichurri and guasacaca, an avocado-based sauce popular in Venezuela. The cost is $35 for one person, $60 for two people, or $110 for four.

Grilled Bransino (Mediterranean sea bass) will also be available ($45 for two) along with a number of a la carte sides, including salad and arepas – South American-style sandwiches ($9). Arepa fillings will include chicken and avocado, mushroom and chorizo, and cheese.

“Summer is the time for more casual dining. And we have a great patio right in Kitsilano, near the beach. It’s the perfect place to sit back, have a drink, and enjoy a meal that is simple, authentic, and delicious,” says Alvarez.

The barbecue menu will replace the regular Cacao menu on Saturdays, and will be on offer until after Labour Day. Thursday evenings are dedicated to Marcela’s Dinner, featuring Cacao co-owner Marcela Ramirez’s traditional Mexican fare. Cacao’s regular menu and degustation set menu will be on offer Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
