Gastown Location of Nemesis Seeking Cafe Manager

Vancouver, BC | Nemesis is the central hub for all creatives. We are a busy coffee shop located in the heart of Gastown, serving specialty coffee, brunch and cocktails. We are looking for a full time, experienced, passionate, creative general manager to manage our fast-paced operations. This position not only requires strong management experience, but is heavily centered around customer service and hospitality, and requires excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure, and willingness to work overtime, if necessary. At least 10 years of managerial experience handling a busy restaurant, coffee operations and managing staff is required. In addition, the candidate must have impeccable references and education in the field. As we will be roasting our own coffee beans soon, the ideal candidate would possess experience supervising the roasting of coffee beans. Note, the position requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Job Duties:
– Organize, direct and evaluate the daily operations of the restaurant
– Implement service standards and operational procedures
– Recruit and train staff
– Set work schedules and ensure hours are reflected correctly for payroll
– Monitor staff performance
– Supervise a team between 16-20 people
– Monitor revenues and modify procedures and prices
– Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
– Resolve customer complaints
– Negotiate discounts and production outputs with food, coffee and other suppliers (all front of house and back of house product suppliers)
– Control and manage inventory (weekly stock counts, maintain inventory levels, update costs in inventory database)
– Manage costing of coffee and food costing
– Supervise the operation of the roasting machine (including roasting, stamping, head sealing, weighing and shipping)
– Custom roasting beans for our existing clientele
– Supervision of staff responsible for maintenance of the roasting machine
– Inspect the quality the green beans and roasted coffee beans
– Package and fulfill orders to the correct specification
– Assist the CFO with invoicing, all inventory and disbursements
– Assist the CFO with financial and analytical reports
– Assist with cupping, coffee education, and cupping profiles
– Manage customer communication and logistics regarding catering orders booking the use of the cafe for events/functions

Skills Requirements

Education:
Completion of post-secondary or other program related to hospitality or food and beverage service management
Valid Serving it Right Certification

Experience:
– At least 10 years of experience managing restaurants/coffee shops and supervising operations and staff
– At least 3 years of experience supervising, training and assisting the staff responsible for maintaining the roaster and inspecting the quality of the beans
– Experience handling Square and Moneris point of sale systems and being able to produce cash out reports and analytical reports
– Experience liaising with customers regarding catering orders and events/functions bookings would be an asset
