Applications for 2019 BCHF Sommelier Scholarships Open Today

This announcement was sent out earlier today by the BC Hospitality Foundation and we think serious students of the grape should take note of the opportunity. Best of luck to all who apply!

The BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is pleased to announce that as of December 11, 2018 it will accept applications for its 2019 Sommelier Scholarships. In February the charity will award 10 Sommelier Scholarships of $1,000 each. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2019.

The BCHF is best known for providing financial assistance to hospitality workers in crisis due to extraordinary medical circumstances, but it also awards several scholarships each year. Sponsored by local wineries, the Sommelier Scholarships provide an opportunity for hospitality workers to further their wine knowledge through schooling. This year’s Scholarships are sponsored by Sunrock Vineyards, Authentic Wine & Spirit Merchants, Da Silva Vineyards & Winery, Hester Creek, and Okanagan Crush Pad.

Students applying must currently be employed in and/or have intentions of pursuing a career in the hospitality business, with a focus on wine. Students should have an application to their next course in progress when applying for a scholarship. Successful applicants will be contacted in February and scholarships will be presented at the Vancouver International Wine Festival Awards Lunch on March 1, 2019.

To apply, and to view information about other Scholarships the BCHF will be awarding in 2019, please visit https://bchospitalityfoundation.com/scholarships.

About the BC Hospitality Foundation | The BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is a registered charity that raises funds to support those in the hospitality industry facing financial crisis due to a medical issue. Each year hundreds of hospitality workers across BC face financial challenges and have nowhere else to turn. The BCHF helps them when all other options have been exhausted. In addition, the BCHF offers a scholarship program to foster the development of the next generation of hospitality workers and industry leaders.
