Mission Hill Among World’s Best Vineyard Designs According to Architectural Digest

The GOODS from Mission Hill

West Kelowna, BC | The Okanagan Valley’s iconic Mission Hill Family Estate winery is featured in a recent list released by Architectural Digest highlighting ‘The 19 Best Vineyard Designs Around the World.’

“In recent years, more and more of the best vineyards have sought to make a statement not just with their wines but with the design of their facilities,” says the article. “That means wineries are no longer mere side trips en route to the main attraction – they’ve become destinations in their own right.”

Mission Hill is definitely a destination and a very popular stop on any wine tour that rolls through West Kelowna. It is also one of the Central Okanagan’s more popular concert venues, as their outdoor amphitheatre has recently hosted names like Sheryl Crow, Michael Bolton, Melissa Etheridge, Jewel and many more.

Proprietor Anthony von Mandl purchased the near bankrupt winery in the early 1980’s and worked alongside Seattle-based architect Tom Kundig to transform the hilltop location into an international landmark winery. The centrepieces of the design are a spectacular 12-story bell tower and underground barrel cellars blasted from volcanic rock.

Mission Hill is in good company on the Architectural Digest as it is featured alongside several of the world’s most iconic and architecturally stunning wineries, including Antinori nel Chianti Classico in Italy, Opus One in Napa, and Marques de Riscal in Spain, amongst others. 1. I was fortunate to enjoy an evening “presentation/concert with David Foster”. The venue at Mission Hill was perfect. There was plenty of interesting small space areas set up to receive the guests. The staff was amazingly helpful, and every participant had the oppportunity to enjoy the well designed indoor areas of Mission Hill. Outside there were great spots to relax and enjoy the gardens. The entire concert amphitheatre was impressive. My children bought me two tickets to enjoy the David Foster concert. I chose to have my youngest daughter accompany me. We both enjoyed the Venue and the concert as it suits people of all ages and backgrounds. I’m almost 70 and my daughter is almost 40, and we were thrilled with the architecture and wonderful setting.
Thanks to all the staff at Mission Hill, and David Foster and his group for making this the best concert I have ever attended.

  2. ” Awesome ” architectural wonder, and amazing venue. The gardens, amphitheatre, gift shop, wine tasting rooms and terrace restaurant are fabulous. I recently attended a David Foster concert there, together with my almost-40yr old daughter. I was given the tickets as a almost 70 year birthday present. Thanks to all the staff at Mission Hill and to David Foster for making this the best concert event ever!
