La Mezcaleria to Celebrate 5th Anniversary With Deals, Live-Music Performances

The GOODS from La Mezcaleria

Vancouver, BC | La Mezcaleria, the most authentic and vibrant Mexican restaurant, is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a slew of eat-in deals and live-music performances at its two Vancouver locations from July 13 to 15.

As a muchas gracias to its customers and surrounding communities for their patronage over the years, the locally owned eatery will be offering its happy-hour menu at its Commercial Drive (1622 Commercial Drive) and Gastown (68 East Cordova Street) outposts for the entire weekend.

The menu features dishes like the ceviche callejero ($6), quesito fundido ($8), a personalized size of La Mezcaleria’s signature molten-cheese fondue served in a volcanic stone bowl. Drinks include wine ($6 for five ounces), beer ($5 for 16 ounces), and the bestselling Palomita ($7), an effervescent mix of El Jimador Reposado, grapefruit soda, and lime.

In addition, both La Mezcaleria locations will offer a two-for-$10 and five-for-$20 deal on a specially prepared list of small tacos: de barbacoa de cordero (pulled marinated lamb), de birria de res (braised beef), de pollo con mole negro (pulled chicken in black mole), de chorizo verde (green-jalapeño-and-almond chorizo), and de lengua en salsa verde (beef tongue stewed in a green tomatillo sauce). Sweet tooths can look forward to churros borrachos, a dessert of small churros drizzled in a boozy tequila-caramel sauce.

“From opening on Commercial Drive in 2013 to launching our second location in Gastown three years later, we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of our incredible customers and community,” said Marcelo Ramirez and Ignacio Arrieta, co-owners of La Mezcaleria. “We’re excited to celebrate this milestone year with the people who motivate us to create amazing food—and memorable dining experiences—every day.”

Margaritas will be $10 all weekend, and there will be $7 banderitas: a festive drink that’s inspired by the colours of the Mexican flag and comprised of three elements—tequila (white), fresh lime juice (green), and sangrita (red)—in separate shot glasses. During this time, La Mezcaleria will also debut a new cocktail program that emphasizes unconventional ingredients and twists on classic Mexican sips. These include the Coquito, a take on the mojito that uses coconut tequila and mezcal for a hint of smoke, and the Despacho, a creamy concoction of tequila, blue corn, coconut, lime, and Inca bitters that’s already proven to be a staff favourite.

Finally, La Mezcaleria will play host to a lineup of local and international DJs and musicians that weekend as part of its live-music program. Guests at the Commercial Drive location will be treated to beats from DJ Neighbour on Saturday (July 14), from 10:00 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. A throwback to our memorable late nights, while trio band La Santisima will serenade brunchers on Sunday (July 15) from 12 to 3 p.m. In Gastown, DJ Kalibo will entertain crowds on Friday (July 13) from 9 to 11:30 p.m. Sunday (June 15) will see Latin group El Grupo Cubano – Brisas del Palmar—a La Mezcaleria favourite—taking the stage from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

ABOUT LA MEZCALERIA | Founded in 2013, La Mezcaleria serves truly authentic Mexican fare inspired by the different regions of Mexico. Using organic, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, the restaurant offers approachable and shareable dishes such as ceviches, quesos fundido, grilled seafood and meat parrilladas, and homemade ice creams in inventive flavours like avocado and orange mezcal. Casual and hip in its look and feel, the eatery is also known for its innovative bar program, which uses a diverse selection of high-quality and hard-to-find tequilas and mezcals, savoury ingredients such as serrano pepper and blue corn, and one of the largest agave lists in Vancouver. Lunch and dinner service is offered daily, and a brunch menu of Mexican-style Bennies and other plates is available on weekends.
