Doing ‘The Dishes’ in Port Moody with The Parkside Brewery’s Co-Executive Super President

The Dishes is a new Scout column that asks Vancouverites to walk us through a map of their ideal day and night on the town. We’re talking breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night cocktails. Tax and tip included.

For this edition we took a quick Evergreen Line trip out to Port Moody to get The Parkside Brewery co-owner (aka ‘Co-Executive Super President’) Sam Payne’s picks of what to eat and drink on and off Brewers Row.

Good morning! What’s for breakfast/brunch?

If it’s not “cheesy eggs” and chicken bacon at home with my four year old son, I’m hopeful for the $5 Eggs Benny at Romer’s Burger Bar in Suter Brook Village. Either way, at least two cups of coffee for me, please.

Where should we meet for coffee/tea?

If it’s raining we hit up Caffe Divano on Klahanie for drip coffee. Sunshine? Americano at Rocky Point Ice Cream and a walk in the park across from our brewery.

Now we’re hungry again. What’s for lunch?

Coffee Pork and Moroccan Chicken tacos at Taps and Tacos.

Who has you figured out at Happy Hour?

Darryl and Rylie at the St James’s Well in Newport Village have pints of Dusk Pale Ale on the bar for me when I walk in. If you stay a while the Jamesons start flying. I try to leave before then.

What’s for dinner?

Spacca Napoli. Great meatballs and Dawn Pilsner to start, then double smoked pizza with cream, smoked mozzarella, smoked pancetta, cherry tomatoes, and fresh basil.

What’s for dessert?

Cannolis while I’m still sitting at Spacca Napoli. I’m getting full and don’t want to move yet.

Where are you taking us for late night cocktails?

If by late night cocktails you mean late night beers, I’m on Brewers Row visiting the family for sample flights at The Parkside Brewery, Moody Ales, Twin Sails and Yellow Dog.

  1. Who ever this may reach, when you head to the Parkside Brewery for some delicious beer treats, give Sam Payne a high 5 from me, tell him the Filf send his love from London! He’ll happily share a story or two of our adventures, drink beer and be Merry folks.. peace x
