Vancouver, BC | The summer is here and it’s time to get outside and do things. Most of us have traditions that welcome a change in season, celebrate a holiday or mark a special day. But life is also about spontaneity, change and trying something new. For those who haven’t been to The Gastown Shop Hop, a night awaits you that could quite possibly be your next favourite custom.

On June 8th, over 45 of the neighbourhood’s shops will all get together to host a special evening featuring the latest in seasonal wear with many in store specials and other surprises. The neighbourhood is known for its diverse collection of independent boutiques, each offering a range of exclusive labels and local brands. And when it comes to Shop Hop, Gastown seriously ups the ante.

The owners stick around and because Gastown is a small friendly little place full of independently owned stores, it’s a chance to meet a bunch of new people, get some great new items for your wardrobe and just have some real fun. The event runs from 5pm-9pm, so there’s plenty of time to hang out, shop, socialize and get to know the true side of the neighbourhood.

Gastown is culture magnified. There are incredible shops, solid restaurants and a unique vibe that’s unlike anywhere else in the city. The event has been going strong for 11 years and has become as Gastown as steam and cobblestone.

Here are a few tips to make the most out of The Gastown Shop Hop:

1. Bring a friend, or five | Shop Hop is a social evening that’s best shared. Whether you need a second opinion or an extra pair of arms to carry all of those bags, it’s the perfect excuse for mid-week get-together.

2. Meet up for cocktails | Gastown has dozens of great places to get a drink. Get your evening going with appies and some show-stopping concoctions at one of the neighbourhood’s bars.

3. Don’t leave the boys at home | Gastown has been recognized as a mecca of menswear shops, each carrying a cool array of casual and dapper attire.

4. Remember the basics | Styles change every season, but denim is forever. And, when it comes to jeans, Gastown’s got you covered with boutiques offering everything from the basics to the latest Japanese imports.

5. Once you’ve shopped, drop | Wind down at one of Gastown’s finest establishments. There are plenty of bar and restaurants open throughout the evening and into the night for Hop-pers to take advantage of; so you can hit your favourite hangout or try something new.
