‘Skip The Line’ At Cafe Medina To Help Raise Movember Funds And Awareness

The GOODS from Cafe Medina

Vancouver BC | While Café Medina normally operates under a strict no-reservations policy, the beloved downtown brunch institution will allow locals and visitors alike a golden opportunity to skip the line and book tables for two to six people by donation throughout November with 100 per cent of proceeds to benefit the Movember Foundation.

From Nov. 1 to Nov. 30, Café Medina will offer up three peak time slots each day — 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. — to patrons who pledge a $25 per-table donation to the Movember Foundation, a global charity that raises awareness of men’s health issues with the aim of helping men lead happier, healthier and longer lives.

“We’re thrilled to continue to provide sustenance to both our loyal guests and the community at large by allowing groups to move to the front of the line at Café Medina during peak times while also raising awareness and funds for a worthy cause,” says Café Medina proprietor Robbie Kane, whose family has been affected by prostate cancer.

While Café Medina is as well known for its lineups as its eclectic, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and Belgian waffles, the popular brunch destination always encourages its guests to take advantage of low-traffic times both in the early morning and after 2 p.m. on weekdays to find a coveted spot at the bar or in the dining room.

Kane and the Café Medina staff have already demonstrated their commitment to the community by supporting a number of charity initiatives including Mission Possible and Mealshare, which partners with restaurants across Canada to provide meals to local youth in need.

About Medina

Since opening in 2008, Café Medina has carved out a niche as a truly exceptional breakfast, lunch and weekend-brunch destination that effortlessly blends eclectic bistro fare, connoisseur-savvy coffee and sweet nourishment via the city’s best Belgian waffles.

While the name Medina has many interpretations, it was selected for its connotation to “radiant or enlightened city”. Indeed, this unique café quickly shone as one of the city’s most stylish additions, thanks to owner Robbie Kane’s pioneering attitude towards café culture and distinctive brand of enlightened hospitality — an ideal complement for the café’s instantly memorable, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine by beloved chef Deniz Tarakcioglu.

As Kane explains it, Café Medina doesn’t simply serve food — he and his staff pride themselves on feeding the soul of each and every guest and providing them with sustenance in every way, shape and form. It’s this signature Medina mystique that has made the café a Vancouver institution, and is the reason its guests keep returning again and again.

After six years in its original location in Crosstown, Kane moved Café Medina to a bright and spacious new home at 780 Richards Street in August 2014. And while the café’s new location boasts a number of upgrades, Kane has also taken great pains to migrate and preserve the same quaint touches, fine details and old-world charm that made the café such a beloved staple of the local restaurant scene in its former site.

The café’s new quarters not only allow for increased seating capacity, an expanded bar, open kitchen, high ceilings and plenty of natural light, but also serve as an ideal evening venue for private functions and special events.

Available for Private Evening Functions

Boasting high ceilings, up-cycled lighting fixtures, antique mirrors and traditional deco panel moulding, Café Medina’s expansive dining room offers a truly unique and instantly memorable setting for celebrations, parties and gatherings for up to 60 guests seated or 90 guests reception-style.

Whether it’s an intimate wedding reception or rehearsal, cocktail-and-canapé mingler or a multi-course dinner service, Chef Deniz Tarakcioglu has custom-designed an array of seasonal menu options all featuring Café Medina’s signature Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.
