Vancouver Would Be Cooler If It Was Cold Enough For A Gigantic Ice Carousel

(via) In case this morning’s snow got you hopeful for urban winter pursuits beyond slushy snowball fights, it’s important to remember that the city’s ponds and lakes don’t have enough ice on them to sustain a Monday morning skate or after-school game of shinny. The last time our water surfaces froze to the required 13-15 cm thickness was in 1993, at which point the city blew its magical unicorn horn to give the resounding green light.

If we get lucky and we see a deep freeze this winter, let’s all head down to Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park and make a kickass ice carousel like the ones in Sweden above and Latvia below.
