Spencer and Annie Viehweger have secured a new, third location for Matchstick Coffee Roasters. I took a look inside the 1,700 sqft space at 4811 Main St. (Main and 32nd) yesterday while the proprietors were wrapping up a manager’s meeting and the hard hats were performing fire/safety tests. As you can see, the building itself is still very much under construction.
It’s a great spot on the corner with lots of natural light. Spencer and Annie actually looked around this area for their first location, but their search came up empty. “We’re here all the time,” Annie said. “We live close by, and so do a lot of our friends. We love it here.” It’s on the same block as hole-in-the-wall legends Au Petit Cafe and Long’s Noodle House, just a short walk from Nat Bailey stadium and the winter farmers market.

Their floor plan is calling for 35 seats inside, so it’s around the same size as the Fraserhood location, minus the roastery in the back. I imagine they’ll stick to their trademark clean, Spartan, woodsy-industrial aesthetic with lots of communal seating. What will definitely set this address apart, however, is a patio. They’re hoping to have over 15 seats outdoors, which sounds awesome. “It’s going to be flexible public space.” Spencer explained. “We see it as everyone’s living room.”
As mentioned, there’s a lot of the build left to do. Matchstick doesn’t take possession until February. They’re eyeing a late Spring opening, possibly June. Take a look:
Great coffee on the same block as Long’s? Now that makes me happy.
