We love the romantic, exotic look of Jajo Wine Bar in the old Sarona district of Tel Aviv. Designer/Architect Dan Troim built it into the remnants of a sandstone winery constructed by German Templars who settled in Palestine some 150 years ago. Plenty of great details throughout, from the tables made of brass and marble and the Italian wall in black, coffee, and gold. The arched ceiling makes apparently makes for some fantastic acoustics, and they didn’t skimp on the sound system. Word is Jajo is on the lively side of intimate, all candle-lit and open until “the last customer”. We would have loved to have seen something similar (albeit considerably narrower) installed at the entrance to the secret tunnel connecting the post office on Georgia Street to Waterfront Station. Alas, that potentially awesome space is doomed.
