Vancouver, BC | Lukes and The Acorn bring together great food and great coffee in collaboration with San Francisco’s exceptional Four Barrel Coffee to accompany the vegetarian/vegan restaurant’s brand new brunch service.

Lukes is excited to announce that it will be working together with Vancouver’s The Acorn to bring their famous Four Barrel Coffee to both dinner service and their brand new weekend brunch. The offering is the first time Lukes has served the world-renowned coffee outside of their retail locations.

For The Acorn, brunch is a new offering but one that has always been a part of their vision. The restaurant, which is looking to break from traditional weekend breakfast service, will be translating their unique and lauded approach with menu items such as Southern Fried Artichokes over Gluten Free Vegan Waffles with a Bourbon Maple Syrup (their take on the American brunch classic chicken and waffles).

“We like to have fun with vegetables, come up with creative and delicious seasonal offerings”, says The Acorn owner and creative director, Shira Blustein. “But while we know food, when it comes to coffee we wanted bring in the experts at Lukes to really dial it in for us — because nothing pairs better with brunch than great coffee.”

For the brunch service, Lukes will be offering both drip as well as a cold brew coffee. The cold brew is made at the Lukes’ 49 W Hastings location. Every week, a fresh batch of beans are cold steeped for 12 hours and doubled filtered. The process allows for a true depth of flavour and intensity without any bitterness. The beans, by San Francisco’s award-winning roaster Four Barrel Coffee, are all single-origin, direct-source and are brought in fresh each week.

“Four Barrel Coffee is amongst the top tier of young independent roasters operating in North America right now,” says Lukes owner, Gareth Lukes. “We’re so excited about the way this company is growing and we’re happy to help spread the gospel at one of the city’s most loved independent restaurants.”

About Lukes General Store

lgs19

Lukes General Store was started as a pop-up shop branch of the family owned and operated Lukes Drug Mart which has been based in the community of Bridgeland, Calgary since 1951. Owner Garath Lukes has been committed to continuing his family’s legacy of bringing quality service and products to surrounding communities and the Vancouver location is no exception.

Lukes has tailored the 49 West Hastings location with a number of interesting features that fit perfectly within the lofty two-storey space:

– A large scale analog light clock called ‘Chronograph’, installed by Calgary-based arts organization Wreck City Collective.

– A cafe serving Four Barrel Coffee, an independent roaster based in San Francisco’s Mission district. Served in culinary establishments such as Tartine, Four Barrel is well known for quality beans and well trained, knowledgable baristas. Lukes General Store baristas are held to the same high standard.

– A boutique record store containing a broad but well curated vinyl section (overseen by Shaun Cowan formerly of Scratch Records), headphones, audio equipment and more.

In addition to these unique store features, Lukes will carry a selection of carefully chosen home, apothecary and grocery items such as: Cartems Doughnuts, Beast and Brine Meats, farm direct organic apples from The Okanagan, The Farmhouse (natural cheeses and dairy), Mast Brothers Chocolate, Malin + Goetz Apothecary, Baxter of California Shaving, Otter Wax (leather and fabric Care), The Laundress, Pendleton Home Collection, Jungmaven, Sugo Sauce, Millifera Bees honey Club-Mate (German version of redbull but healthier, made with Yerba Mate), Bread from Nelson the Seagull, Johnstons of Elgin scarves (made in Scotland), Bread & Boxers (basics for men) and much more.

“Lukes is staying true to the general store ethos, we’re selling high quality goods that meet your daily needs”, says dry goods manager Veronika Rezucha. “Drop in, grab a coffee, browse some vinyl, fill your grocery bag and soak in a great atmosphere. It’s an elevated convenience store experience.”
