by Grady Mitchell | Definitive Records asks interesting folks to pick the three albums that anchor their musical tastes. Today we hear from Devin Mackenzie, half of Canadian Comedy Award-nominated duo Hip.Bang!, regular performer at Vancouver Theatresports League, and co-founder of Blind Tiger Comedy School (where you, too can learn to be funny). Catch Devin at the China Cloud’s Cloud Comedy show on July 10th, and watch for his web series Pitchmen dropping late July.
DangerDoom – The Mouse and the Mask | LISTEN | “MF Doom + Danger Mouse = My favourite rap album of all time. The beats are layered, the lyrics are poignant and it’s all anchored to this geeked out love for Aqua Teen Hunger Force. A rare rap album with actually funny “skits” woven in between songs.”
Mount Kimbie – Crooks & Lovers | LISTEN | “I lock myself into a room, turn my phone off, pour a small taster of fine scotch, take a single toot from a sexy marijuana cigarette, and put this album on. Some people can’t write while listening to music. I find Crooks & Lovers urges my writing forward, while simultaneously stirring up new and curious ideas.”
Molly Nilsson – History | LISTEN | “Molly Nilsson is this incredible, dreamy Swedish synth-pop mega babe who makes albums that are equally perfect for mellowing out, or making spirited love to. This album was brought to my attention by a co-worker at a coffee shop where interesting music was the only escape from the unspoken drabness of coffee varietals.”
