Matt Hanns Schroeter’s Evocative Wilderness Photo, “Winter Massif”

@thisopenspace held a fantastic (and long over due launch) last week. Founded by Yashar Nijati, with Holly Goldsmith-Jones as his renaissance woman community manager, this space-sharing network is doing some great things in Vancouver. Case and Point, the #OpenSpaceShow, which features 12 local artists and is gracing the walls of The Playground until Thursday night. So run, don’t walk, to 434 Columbia St. in Chinatown.

One of the 12 reasons you should do this is Matt Hanns Schroeter’s piece, “Winter Massif”. It’s a photograph he took while hiking in Golden Ears Provincial Park with friends. The quiet, contemplative space immediately attracted me, but what held me was the sense of expansiveness. Schroeter captured it beautifully. This photo belongs on a bedroom wall – it’s something I would want to wake up to every morning. Buy before it’s gone!

Artist: Matt Hanns Schroeter | Piece: Winter Massif, 20×30, digital photograph
Price: $350.00 | Gallery: The Playground @thisopenspace (now May 28).

Put A Dot On It highlights a work of excellence by an emerging artist in Vancouver. The piece will be on view to the public at a gallery or open studio, and available to buy. The point of the column is to make buying affordable art easier than navigating the shortest route possible to your local Ikea.
