Vancouver, BC | The grillmasters at Railtown Cafe are set to prove that where there’s smoke there’s fire, hosting a series of five streetside Tailgate Barbecue events at their fun and funky cafe in the heart of Vancouver’s historic Railtown District on select Saturdays this summer season.

Kicking off June 6 with additional dates scheduled for July 4, Aug. 8, Sept. 12 and Sept. 26, Railtown Cafe Chefs and Co-owners Dan Olson and Tyler Day will fire up their custom-built, 12-foot smoker/barbecue barrel from 4 to 10 p.m. and dish up heaping plates of slow-smoked brisket and pork shoulder and beer-brined chicken and sausage, as well as a choice of side dishes for only $16 per person, with a vegetarian option for $10 per person.

The Tailgate Barbecue menu includes:

35-hour Texas-style Beef Brisket
Applewood-smoked Pork Shoulder
Beer-Brined Fraser Valley Chicken
D’Original Sausage Haus Brats
Tabatha’s Jalapeño Cornbread
Corn on the Cob

Plus, a choice of two side dishes:

Carolina Coleslaw
Creamy Potato Salad
Classic Caesar Salad
Farmers’ Market Field Greens

Patrons can also pair every Tailgate Barbecue plate with a rotating selection of draught craft beers by such local breweries as Postmark, Driftwood, Red Truck and Strange Fellows, as well as house-made Sangria and Lynchburg Lemonade, wines by the glass and bottle, and happy hour specials on tap from 4 to 6 p.m.

Railtown Cafe is no stranger to the grill, having claimed first-place trophies for Best Brisket, Best Chili, Best Side (Jalapeño Corn Bread) and Best Pig Roast last summer at the third annual Gastown BBQ and Chili Festival, which pitted 13 local restaurants against each other in a charity competition that attracted an estimated 18,000 people.

“We’re excited to roll out the barbecue barrel again this summer for our Tailgate parties,” says Chef and Co-owner Tyler Day. “It’s a really fun atmosphere with a great vibe and we’re looking forward to not only offering our classic Tailgate dishes but also expanding an already delicious lineup with new items like a burger bar, bourbon-basted ribs, tacos and wild salmon as the summer progresses.”

Tickets for each of the Railtown Tailgate Summer Barbecue Series events on June 6, July 4, Aug. 8 and Sept. 12 and 26 are available for $16 (meat-lovers) and $10 (vegetarian) plus GST, and may be purchased online at www.railtowncafe.ca/events as well as on-site.
