by Grady Mitchell | Definitive Records asks interesting folks to pick the three albums that anchor their musical tastes. Today we hear about the varied tastes of talented Vancouver painter Andy Dixon.
Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy | LISTEN | “In 2030, when whoever is the current equivalent to, I dunno, Scorsese, makes a nostalgic film about this era of culture, Kanye will be the soundtrack. He is the epitome of this moment. If you don’t see this album as a masterpiece, you are on the wrong side of history.”
Sonic Youth – Goo | LISTEN | “I’m not the type of person to look back on things in my life, generally. I’m one of the least nostalgic people I know. Considering this, and the fact that I’ve grown to pretty much loath the sound of a guitar, it is a strong testament to the greatness of this album that it’s been a favourite of mine since I was eleven years old when I saw the Kool Thing video on City Limits. My first teenage make-out session was to Dirty Boots.’
A$AP Rocky – Long Live A$AP | LISTEN | “Okay, I can admit that not every track on this thing is a gem, but if one considers how good the songs that ARE gems are, one must admit this album’s greatness. If you listen to the track LVL and you’re not moved by it, you have no soul. He’s fallen off a bit lately and I hope Lord Flacko gets back on soon.”
