by Andrew Morrison | Good news for coffee lovers. Bump N Grind, one of our favourite cafes on Commercial Drive, is opening soon in the South Granville neighbourhood, sandwiched in between Meinhardt and Ouisi Bistro at 3010 Granville Street.
I looked in on the site with owners Kyle and Cheryl Wright just a couple of days ago. They were getting close to finishing the job, and I’d wager they’re considerably closer as I write this. The construction crew from Tetherstone were busily cladding the old subway tiled walls with off-white boards and putting the finishing touches on a cool shelving unit that actually spells out the name of the cafe in bespoke geometric script (Tetherstone are some of the best in the trade — you can check out more of their work at the original Matchstick, both locations of 49th Parallel and, most recently, at Chambar, where they constructed the interesting front cubby/coat-check installation and gorgeous back bar).
Opening day isn’t set in stone, but I imagine we might see it as soon as next weekend or shortly thereafter. When that day comes, the neighbourhood will be a little richer for it, with beans from Fernwood, Phil & Sebastian, and Transcend, plus gourmet sandwiches and baked goods (mmm, Earl Grey shortbread!). There’s seating for up to 24 people, and maybe even a patio at some point down the line. Take a closer look…
