by Rebecca Slaven | Horseshoe Bay is my all-time favourite bike ride. It’s a journey even more beautiful than the destination with gorgeous scenery nearly the whole way there and back. Prepare for a nap after arriving home. It’s a long and hilly ride!

Begin your route by biking to the Lions Gate Bridge and follow the signs that eventually lead you into Park Royal. Signage drops off around the mall but even the most directionally-challenged should easily find their way. Essentially, take a right at the first stop sign you arrive at in the Park Royal parking lot and then a left on the first road, which is Marine Drive. Then keep heading west until you hit the ocean.
Stops & Eats | Make sure to stop at Lighthouse Park. I’m always too beat to take advantage of the hikes but the rocks above the lighthouse are a lovely spot to take a break.
In Horseshoe Bay, Olive & Anchor has fresh pub-style food, offering both healthy eats and plates of carbs. You can either sit in the restaurant or order from the takeout menu and eat at one of the nearby picnic tables (I’ve heard that the baked oysters are amazing). You’ll also pass by the Savary Island Pie Company on the way there and back if you find yourself with a hankering for pastry. Have fun!
