Oliver, BC | Twenty fourteen is a big year for Tinhorn Creek Vineyards and they want their loyal fans, friends and supporters to be part of the 20th anniversary celebrations. There are plenty of ways to join in the fun, with 20 events happening in 2014 to commemorate the 20 years of Tinhorn Creek Vineyards.

Since harvesting their first grapes in 1994 on the Golden Mile in the Okanagan, the family-owned and operated Tinhorn Creek Vineyards has been a pioneer of carbon-neutral winemaking and has been instrumental in introducing the world to British Columbian wine.

“Our 20th anniversary is a great time to celebrate what we’ve managed to build in an ever-changing BC wine industry,” says CEO and Winemaker Sandra Oldfield. “It’s a chance to look ahead to where Tinhorn Creek and BC wine lovers are heading. I’m very excited about what the next 20 years will have to offer because I know we’ll be right there helping to shape and strengthen the wines and the wine industry.”

Join Tinhorn Creek on February 12th for the Good Wolfe Winemaker Dinner, where guests can try Yaletown’s newest restaurant and taste some of Tinhorn Creek’s wines with winemaker Sandra Oldfield.

On April 22nd Miradoro Restaurant’s proprietor Manny Ferreira will celebrate 20 years since he bought a case of Tinhorn wine by returning to the kitchen to appear as guest chef at a special Communal Table Dinner. Tinhorn Creek Vineyards’ 20th anniversary fun continues with a “greatest hits” Concert Series, which starts on May 24th when the vineyards’ outdoor amphitheatre will feature music from favourite past concert performers, washed down with a selection of Tinhorn Creek’s very own “bests”. The concert series will end with a Grand Finale on September 6th featuring an iconic Canadian singer-songwriter.

The vineyard itself will be the spectacular setting for many of the 20 special events. Highlights include a communal Crab Feast on June 8th where guests can chow down on Cajun style crab and enjoy Tinhorn wine on alfresco long tables.

Join Tinhorn Creek Vineyards for their open house 20th Anniversary Festival celebration on July 20th. This family-friendly event will be a special party with fun games and great giveaways, plus entertainment such as a magician, face painting and music; accompanied by a barbecued feast and treats from Miradoro Restaurant.

At the Starlit Supper on August 15th the Miradoro Restaurant team will be producing a multi-course menu paired with Tinhorn Creek wines, all served in the moonlit outdoor amphitheatre.

On October 10th Tinhorn celebrates 20 years with an unforgettable City Lights Meets Country Nights dinner at Miradoro Restaurant, featuring Chef Angus An from Vancouver’s award-winning Thai restaurant Maenam. Chef An and Miradoro’s Executive Chef Jeff Van Geest will be creating alternate courses paired with Tinhorn Creek wines. Tinhorn’s winemaking team will guide diners through the wine pairings.

As Tinhorn’s 20th year draws to a close the Hearty Harvest Communal Table Dinner on November 18th commemorates the 21st harvest with a rustic and warm celebration of a long table dinner, with hot mulled wine, soup and a taste of the new wine releases.

On December 6th, get into holiday spirits at Tinhorn’s Tacky Christmas Social – a festive night of games, great food and wine tasting. Don’t forget your ugly Christmas sweater!

Tinhorn Creek will be offering 20th Anniversary event passports. Pick up your passport at the winery and have it stamped when you attend any of the anniversary events. Those who attend 5 events or more will be entered to win a great prize!

About Tinhorn Creek

On a hillside overlooking vineyards, sagebrush, and the old gold mining creek that is its namesake, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards has been owned and operated by the Shaunessy and Oldfield families since 1993. The winery is located south of Oliver, BC, at the junction of Highway 97 and Road 7 in the famed Golden Mile wine-growing district. This area, named for its rich history of farming that dates back to the early 1900s, is home to several quality wine producers. Tinhorn Creek sources fruit exclusively from its own vineyards: 150 acres of prime land on two very distinct benches. This land lends to the creation of terroir-driven wines that are classic illustrations of the place they are grown. The 100-acre Diamondback Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench is planted with a mix of red and white varieties, primarily Pinot Gris, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 50-acre Tinhorn Creek Vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench is also planted with a mix of red and white grapes, but primarily features Gewürztraminer.

Farming their own vineyards using sustainable practices allows Tinhorn Creek full control over the quality of fruit delivered to the crush pad for each vintage. The winery produces wines in two tiers under one dynamic and compelling label. The single-varietal series includes a Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Merlot. Only worthy wines are selected each year for the winery’s top tier, winemaker Sandra Oldfield’s signature wines, named the Oldfield Series. This tier provides Oldfield with a playground for experimentation and is a creative showcase for the best wines from each vintage. All Tinhorn Creek wines evoke the unique terroir of the region: the sage-covered desert terrain.

Tinhorn Creek was the first winery in Canada to bottle its entire portfolio with Stelvin screw-cap closures ensuring consistent aging and a guarantee that the wine will be enjoyed as it was intended.
