The GOODS from Curious Oyster

Vancouver, BC | To revel in one of the loveliest Vancouver summers on record, Curious Oyster Catering Co. presents their latest signature Curious Event. On August 18, 2013, they invite you to join them for Salt & Soil, an alfresco party celebrating the seasonal harvest at Tessa Wetherill’s stunning half-acre organic vegetable and flower urban farm. Tickets will include a selection of canapés, sparkling conversation, fresh oysters and live music by celebrated local songwriter Bob Sumner.

“It’s been the most beautiful summer,” says Curious Oyster owner Richard Boucher, “and we are very excited to be able to celebrate it in such a gorgeous and unique space. I’ve been friends with Tessa for years and have seen the work she does at the garden. We couldn’t let the summer pass without celebrating it and having others come and see what they’ve produced. This is the type of collaboration we hope for when creating our events.” The Curious Oyster signature oyster bar will feature the freshest seafood, shucked to order, paired with their secret-recipe mignonettes.

And to showcase the farm’s bounty, Richard invited chef Tarek Bey Chellouf to create a complementary menu of canapés using hyper-local ingredients — grown right on site. Says Chellouf, “I’ll be showcasing the great summer produce in fresh flavour combinations. The menu’s come together organically as the product grows.”

And as guests sip cocktails, wine, beer and scotch, they’ll be encouraged to explore the gardens. The gardens’ lead farmer Tessa Wetherill of Farmers on 57th will be on hand to provide tours of the urban agricultural space that is the heart of a weekly Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program for 40 families. Says Wetherill, “One of the reasons I’ve chosen to pursue farming in the city is for opportunities like this. If I can’t share what I love, it feels empty. So I am thrilled to be a part of this beautiful evening that celebrates connection to the source of our food, that gathers people to eat together in the peak of this bountiful harvest season.”

Following the food and wine program, 2013 Western Canadian Music Awards Songwriter of the Year nominee Bob Sumner (Sumner Brothers) and Missy Donaldson (St. James Music Academy) will treat an audience under the trees to a feature set of folk music starting at dusk. Details after the jump…

When: Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 6pm
Where: The garden is located on West 57th Avenue, West of Cambie Street, in south Vancouver

Tickets are $50 and are available on Curious Oyster’s website and at the door for $60 — only 100 tickets will be sold (includes open oyster bar, 1 beverage, food & live music. Additional drinks can be purchased at the cash bar.
