The GOODS from Hawksworth

Vancouver, BC | Wine Director Bryant Mao presents an exclusive series of winemaker dinners this Spring at Hawksworth Restaurant, joined by representatives from much celebrated wineries in California & New Zealand. The series of three intimate dinner experiences will showcase the unique stories of Viader Vineyard & Winery (Deer Park, CA), Kumeu River Wines (Auckland, NZ) and Felton Road Wines (Central Otago, NZ). Guests will taste different varietals and vintages paired with exceptional cuisine from the Hawksworth kitchens while in the company of a member of the wineries’ winemaker team.

“My team and I selected these three remarkable wineries, as they each showcase both the distinct terroir of their respective wine region and grape variety in an exceptional way,” shared Bryant Mao. “I first came across Viader Vineyards in London and have always been a supporter; their use of a high percentage of Cabernet Franc in their reds produces a rounded finish and silky tannins. Kumeu River and Felton Road, both from lesser known New Zealand wine regions, are two of the best producers of my favourite grape varieties – Pinot Noir and Chardonnay – not only in New Zealand but potentially within all wine regions around the globe.”

On May 8th, third generation winemaker Paul Brajkovich of Kumeu River Wines on New Zealand’s North Island will host an intimate 18-seat dinner. Wine is in Paul’s blood; he grew up on the winery, which was established in 1944 by his grandparents and delights in sharing the distinct character of the wines with an international audience.

On May 29th, Chief Winemaker Blair Walter of Felton Road Wines brings a taste of Central Otago, New Zealand to Hawksworth Restaurant. With extensive cellar experience from Australia to Burgundy, Blair became winemaker at Felton Road in Central Otago for their inaugural 1997 vintage, which quickly earning them reputation as one of New Zealand’s top producers of pinot noir. Wines poured will include Felton Road’s “Central Otago” Riesling 2011, “Bannockburn” Chardonnay 2010, and two of their renowned Pinot Noirs: 2011 “Block 5” and 2011“Calvert”.

Kick-starting the series is the sold out Viader Vineyards & Winery dinner, hosted by Delia Viader on April 15th. Argentine-born Viader is a pioneer who brought the Bordeaux style of wine making and vineyard cultivation to California, leading to the elegant, complex wines Viader has been producing since 1986.

Ticket sales for this intimate winemaker dinner series are limited so act fast to secure your place. The Kumeu River Wines dinner is priced at $155 per person and the Felton Road dinner at $185 per person – prices are inclusive of tax and gratuity.
