Gassy Jack | Historical figure | Legend has painted John Deighton, aka Gassy Jack, as an intrepid pioneer, but he was more accurately an alcoholic windbag who married a 12-year old First Nations girl. He built a bar where Peckinpah stands today. Gastown is named after him.
