Jens-Hugo Jacobsen Of Yarrow’s Award Winning Polderside Farms Has Passed Away

We are very saddened to report that organic farmer Jens-Hugo Jacobsen of Polderside Farms died yesterday while hard at work on his land. If you’re not familiar with him personally, you’ve probably eaten his poultry, which is widely regarded among local chefs as some of the very best available in Canada (Polderside won Supplier of the Year at the Van Mag Restaurant Awards back in 2008). I once had the pleasure of visiting him and his wife Virginia on their Yarrow farm, and remember him as a very sweet man and consummate host whose tenderness for his birds was endearingly sincere. Our hearts go out to all those he loved and worked with, and especially to his wife, Virginia.

  1. The farming and restaurant community has lost a pioneer in organic farming and one of the most passionate people about sustainable, organic farming I have ever met. Jens was a huge supporter of Big Lous and Two Chefs and I will definitely miss the long chats about how they farm and how they raised their animals…. He was a extremely hard worker and the times we visited their farm it was so obvious…. my heart goes out to his wife Virginia.

Condolences from all the crew at two chefs and big lous

  2. My condolences, his hard work and contributions will not be forgotten. My love goes out to Virginia.

  3. My husband and I have known Jens and Virginia through our association in specialty poultry. We are so sad to hear of Jens passing and our love goes out to Viginia at this sad time.

  4. Our condolences, Virginia.
This is indeed a shock and we are saddened by your loss. May our Heavenly Father give you strength and comfort.
