Vancouver, BC | SeaWeb today announced Executive Chef of C Restaurant Robert Clark and CEO of Kambolis Restaurant Group Harry Kambolis as winners of the 2011 Seafood Champions Awards at the International Boston Seafood Show. The annual Seafood Champion Awards honour those who have made significant strides in improving practices and awareness of responsibly produced seafood. Seafood Choices established the award in 2006 to honor those in the seafood industry whose past or present contributions demonstrate a commitment to innovation that leads to change.

“I’m honored to be receiving this award on behalf of the Kambolis Group and C Restaurant in recognition of our collective commitment to sustainability,” said Kambolis.  “As a passionate environmentalist, I ensure sustainability is evident in all of our endeavors and I hope to set an example for others in the industry to do the same.”

First presented in 2006, the annual Seafood Champion Awards recognize outstanding leadership in advancing the market for sustainable seafood.  Nominated by the seafood community and judged by a panel that includes previous winners, the awards have been bestowed upon individuals, companies and organizations from the fishing, aquaculture, seafood supply and distribution, retail, media, restaurant and foodservice sectors. Winners of this award have influenced the marketplace with regard to the sourcing of ocean-friendly seafood while successfully integrating innovative models to advance seafood sustainability in the industry. The Seafood Champions Award is part of the Seafood Choices program at SeaWeb.

“As chefs, our job is not only about serving great tasting food, but encouraging our staff and our guests to learn how to get sustainably produced food to the table,” said Chef Clark.  “We all need to play our small part, and choosing sustainable produced seafood is something we can all do as citizens of this planet.”

Activist and sustainability titan Dr. David Suzuki wrote to Clark and Kambolis when they were nominated, “You have clearly understood what sustainability is all about and have used your positions to spread the word. I am so proud that you have partnered with us.”

Kambolis received his award this afternoon in Boston at the Boston Seafood Show; Clark will receive his in May at the Brussels Seafood Show.
