Judging By Covers: Ten Versions Of Talking Heads “Naive Melody”

Whereby we listen to one ubiquitous song before delving into the sometimes awesome moonbeam panoply of its covers, remixes and tributes…because it’s the internet and we can do that. To start is one of my all-time favourite Talking Heads anthems, Naive Melody. It’s a classic with long synth solos that are open to wild interpretation from a variety of instruments, plus a steady beat, hooks galore and some real woo-woo vocals. Press play on the original above. You’ll find 10 cover tracks from artists like Arcade Fire, MGMT, Motet and more after the jump. Enjoy…

MGMT slays on Wesleyan University campus (circa 2003).

Arcade Fire throw down with some steel drums and angst…

The Full Catastrophe
knocks out a by the book gooder…

Motet rocks the Fox Theater in Boulder Colorado

Casadidadi remixes more than covers, but it works…

Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio gives it a whirl…

Euforquestra has it pretty well dialed…

Jack Penate does a great live version in Nottingham…

Max Fisher channels Bret Easton Ellis in this American Psycho-inspired reimagining…

  1. Have you heard of “Naive Melodies” from California? They are a new Talking Heads tribute band, the guy sounds a lot like David byrne…But they add a bit of ‘bad-ass’ to the music.
