I was at a party last week and a couple of girls I know started telling me about this cool app that I’d never heard of before. It’s called Hipstamatic, and what it does is it messes about with the iPhone’s camera through a variety of lenses, film styles, and crazy gel flashes to give each shot added jolts of antiquity and atmosphere. The results can vary (they can suck), but when you get a gooder it’s a real gooder, and there are plenty enough gooders to make you repeat “I love my phone” over and over again.
The pictures come out nice and aged, looking as if they were shot in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, depending on the configurations you put together. The app is just $1.99, with add-on packages selling for .99 cents each. I bought them all shortly after I started fiddling with it. The addictive app is also social media friendly, allowing you to directly upload shots to Facebook and Flickr. Bonus.
While I realise II might be pretty late to Hipstamatic’s awesomeness (I suspect Scout readers usually know about and tire of this sort of stuff well before I do), I’m still digging it, so much so that I left my regular cameras – a Canon g10 and a Rebel T1I – behind for the past 72 hours and went about my usual business with the Hipstamatic.
Take a look…
so cool.. best app ever.
