An Alternative Wedding Fair For The Cool Kids

I’m not much of a wedding fair gal. The idea of paying to walk around some huge sports venue full of stale air and crap lighting while the sticky pushy crowd steers me from one frothy sugar-coated booth to the next is wholly unappealing (can you tell?). My cynical self imagines wandering in a sea of giggly self-absorbed girls whose thoughts are limited to fairytale weddings and how much weight they have to lose to squeeze in to a dress that will make them look just like Jennifer Aniston did when she married Brad Pitt. Photographers, florists, caterers – everyone seems to riff on the same theme. To be honest, the whole idea kind of blows my mind. No thanks.

I have already tied the knot (we managed just fine without attending a single wedding fair). But if I were planning to do it all over again then Indie-I-Do would be the only kind of wedding fair I could stomach – or even quite enjoy. Organized by the same folks that brought us Got Craft (see previous Scout post here), Indie-I-Do will showcase independent and local exhibitors – from dress and jewelery designers to Burlesque performers and corset makers. These are things I wish I knew about for my wedding: the photobooth rental service, Cake and Lemonade Super 8 Films and beautiful invitations from Sunlit Letterpress.

As I said – I am happily hitched. But if you (or someone you know) are planning, tell us. Lotus Events has kindly supplied Scout with a few pairs of tickets to Indie-I-Do and we would love to pass them on to you if you are interested in attending. Just drop me a line at [email protected].

They cater to a diverse crowd,– “be it an off beat theme wedding, same sex do, or simply a traditional couple looking to add a touch of their own unique personalities into their event Indie I Do has something for everyone”. Check it out on Jaunary 17th at Heritage Hall. If you miss out on the Scout freebie tickets, they’ll be $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

And congrats on the nups.

  1. Hi!
Thanks, Michelle and Scout, for the passes to Indie-I-Do. I went this afternoon and I got verrry inspired. I met some great people who offer extremely unique (and reasonably priced) photos, food, dresses, invitations…
There’s still time to get to the show, so if you haven’t gone down yet, go check it out!
