SCOUT LIST: 10 Things That You Should Absolutely Do Between Now & Next Week

by Michelle Sproule | The main objective of this website is to scout out and promote the things that make Vancouver such a sweet place to be. We do this with an emphasis on the city’s independent spirit to foster a sense of connectedness within and between our communities, and to introduce our readers to the people who grow and cook our food, play the raddest tunes in our better venues, create our most interesting art, and design everything from what we wear to the spaces we inhabit. The Scout List is our carefully considered, first rate agenda of super awesome things that we’re either doing, wishing that we could do, or conspiring to do this week. A Healthy Dose Of Film & Booze At The Biltmore

Saturdays are brighter spots on the weekly east side calendar with the promise of stimulating films for the masses. That’s right, the crew at the Biltmore have introduced their particular version of the Saturday Matinee. It’s free.

Pull quote from their Facebook page:

“Because they won’t serve you booze at the theatre, the Biltmore now shows movies.”

Too right. The new matinée series combines plenty of goodies. We’re talking Ronin, High Fidelity (clip above), Gross Pointe Blank, and Heathers, with guest DJ’s playing film-apropos tracks that resonate two sheets at the open bar. Popcorn is not on offer (the possibility is being investigated), but guests are welcome to bring snacks along. Word is they might be considering free pancakes with a beer purchase. If so, the classy Biltmore Saturday Matinee Series may soon be renamed “Hangover Film Day” (or so sayeth the booking agent).

Movie Matinees at the Biltmore:

March 7 – High Fidelity/DJ’s spinning top songs

March 14 – Heathers/DJ’s – 80′s music

March 21 – Donnie Darko – 90′s tunes

March 28 – First Annual Local Indy Documentary Short Film Festival

Saturdays | 12 noon – 4 | Biltmore Cabaret | FREE
