Indie Profile: Fashion Designer Angela Chen of Orange NYC

etyjkMeet Angela Chen, born in Taiwan, raised in Vancouver, a graduate of Parsons the New School for Design in New York, and the fashion designer behind Orange NYC.

Why is Vancouver a good city for independent design? Because local merchants are very supportive of independent designers and there are many opportunities and places to sell your line.

Most exciting Orange moment to date? At the opening gala of the first store that carried my collection. “Debut” in Soho, NYC.

If there was a Orange soundtrack, what would it sound like? An awkward mixture of Taiwanese Pop songs, oldies, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jazz (monks dream), Lisa Ono.

VFW was created in 2000 and focuses on featuring emerging local, international, and eco-friendly designers. Each year we have seen a growth in designers wanting to display their lines, an increase in people interested in attending the shows, more celebrities, and press. We have grown tremendously in the recent years and we are excited to report, that the fall 2009 shows are already gearing up to being the biggest and most glamorous event yet. VFW is quickly becoming one of the most prominent fashion weeks in B.C. Check back for updates.
