Vancouver, BC | The Dirty Apron Delicatessen, now open at 540 Beatty Street, will offer downtown-dwellers hot lunches, gourmet sandwiches, take-home carvery meals, deli meats and cheeses, produce, groceries and fresh flowers. Reminiscent of the general stores of old, the Delicatessen is housed in a historic brick and beam building in Vancouver’s Crosstown neighbourhood within the wildly popular Dirty Apron Cooking School.

Sandwich lovers will rejoice in the creations of Chef Nico Schuermans, whose pulled pork with Japanese mayo, pickled carrots, bean sprouts and cilantro on French baguette is a fresh take on a Vietnamese sub. Other sandwiches like chicken with chipotle mayo and roast tomatoes, prosciutto with fig and Cambozola cheese, hummus with avocado, mint carrot and pomegranate molasses, or the roast beef with chorizo, chimichurri, and charred tomato salsa are also sure to satisfy. Nico will also be offering a Roast of the Day and gourmet sides for healthy take-out family meals, the a perfect weeknight answer to that “what’s for dinner?” question.

In the grocery aisle, don’t miss Chambar Pastry Chef Eleanor Chow’s incredible toppings, previously only available as a delectable waffle side at Café Medina up the street. These indulgent sauces include flavours like white chocolate pistachio rosewater, raspberry caramel, milk chocolate lavender, dark chocolate and fig orange marmalade. If sweets are your thing continue to the freezer section for Eleanor’s homemade ice creams of vanilla bourbon, milk chocolate, and lemon buttermilk sorbet.

Far from your average deli, the Dirty Apron also offers organic fruits and vegetables, artisan cheeses, milk, yogurts, handcrafted dressings, pre-packed marinated meats, and anything else your epicurious heart desires.

The Dirty Apron Delicatessen is open from 10AM to 8PM, seven days a week. For more information please visit www.dirtyapron.com/deli. Read more

News from Scout supporter Dirty Apron Cooking School

Vancouver, BC | Love food but tired of cooking for one? The Dirty Apron Cooking School is bringing city singles together in a class designed to help students meet their match in the kitchen. The class will be a no-pressure combination of cooking, wining, dining and dating, matching male and female students together to co-create gourmet dishes.

With 20 spaces available, students will have the opportunity to meet 10 like-minded food lovers. Paired up at random, each student will cook smoked salmon blinis with lemon yogurt, harrissa prawns with herb salad, seared Hallumi with pomegranate molasses, herb crusted lamb medallions, and chocolate soufflé with chocolate dipped strawberries; rotating between stations to mingle and meet as they cook and eat. Breaking the ice a little further will be Michaela Morris and Michelle Bouffard of House Wine, who will offer commentary with each dish to help demystify wine pairings (and possibly the opposite sex).

The first Singles in the City class will run on Saturday, July 31st and will continue once each month thereafter. Each student is guaranteed to leave at the very least with a few new recipes. Hopefully they’ll pick up a few new phone numbers, too. For more information please visit www.dirtyapron.com. Read more

The Dirty Apron Cooking School is Vancouver’s newest, most exciting culinary playground. A place for the amateur, the culinary-inclined, or the curious, The Dirty Apron Cooking School offers a fun, relaxed environment to learn, explore, and unleash your inner chef.

Opened Summer 2009 with the intention of creating an environment for novices, foodies, and aspiring chefs to learn the tricks of the trade, The Dirty Apron Cooking School offers a selection of classes that vary from creating regional classics to understanding ingredient-driven basics and executing essential knife skills.

Classes are led by chef David Robertson whose pedigree is established in classic French cuisine and accented with achievements including a team-win for Gold in the 1996 Culinary Olympics. In addition to Robertson’s tutelage, The Dirty Apron Cooking School hosts celebrity and local guest chef appearances throughout the year. Instruction focuses on popular regional cuisines as well as basic skills for ingredient focused cooking. Students use only the best tools of the trade thanks to partnerships with All Clad cookware, Wusthof knives, Wolf ranges, and Sub Zero fridges.

Students walk through each step required in crafting a complete meal; appetizer, entrée and dessert. After preparation and plating are finished, students will gather at communal tables in the stylish dining room to enjoy their creations with a glass of wine.

In addition to individual classes, The Dirty Apron Cooking School will also offer corporate and group bookings; perfect for team building, corporate retreats, birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, and staff parties.

Alongside expert tutelage, The Dirty Apron Cooking School features a shop stocked with all the kitchen wares utilized in classes and essential for the home kitchen.  All products have been carefully considered and have passed the stringent Dirty Apron Cooking School three-point chef approval system and are tried and tested so that when it comes home, that item does exactly what it promises.

AWARDS & PRESS

“What I loved about the class was that David created such a calming, stress free environment, the participants had such a wide range of expertise and we all felt that we had accomplished something big.” Oct 2009, Bal Arneson, is the author of Everyday Indian, and The Appetizer’s new west coast correspondent. For the full article click here.

“After four entertaining hours, and four courses (the last poached pear dish was actually prepared by Robertson and his kitchen brigade) we roll happily home, armed with a booklet of recipes with which to wow our loved ones.” Deana Lancaster, North Shore News November 04, 2009 For full article click here.

“Research showed 70 per cent of participants would be women but classes are more of a 50-50 split between men and women. “A 55-year-old man who’d never cooked in his life took a class with his wife. He had a blast and his wife fell in love with him all over again,” says Robertson.” By Mia Stainsby, Vancouver Sun, September 18, 2009 For full article click here.
