href="http://scoutmagazine.ca/2008/10/04/ethical-bean-coffee-company/" target="_blank">Ethical Bean Coffee Company

Today, Ethical Bean will begin serving the world’s first Fair Trade Certified Organic doughnut. Canadians consume more doughnuts per capita than any other country in the world, and British Columbians can now dunk, dip, and enjoy this latest offering from Canada’s second largest fair trade coffee company.

Made fresh daily from a secret company recipe, Ethical Bean Doughnuts come in gourmet flavours that put a modern spin on the classic treat. The ginger glazed pairs deliciously with the company’s Exotic blend (an Oprah magazine favourite), while lavender, sweet espresso chocolate glaze, cinnamon sugar, and maple glaze are perfect for dunking into lattes or just enjoying on their own. Company founder and CEO Lloyd Bernhardt is also betting dollars that his doughnuts will be a hit with the Vancouver Police Department, who are setting up shop in the former VANOC building, down the street from the roastery café.

In addition to traditional doughnuts, Ethical Bean will also be offering mini-e’s: delectable bite-sized treats that are ideal for dipping into the company’s organic blueberry compote, lemon cream cheese and salted caramel dipping sauces.

Ethical Bean doughnuts and Ethical Bean mini-e’s are available at the Ethical Bean café and roastery as well as the Ethical Bean Xpress locations at Granville and Commercial Skytrain stations, with more locations coming soon.

About Ethical Bean

Ethical Bean Coffee Company

Vancouver, BC | Beginning today all Vancouver Ethical Bean Xpress cafés will be accepting mobile orders via smartphone. The cafés, located at the Granville and Commercial Skytrain stations as well as the company’s flagship roastery in east Vancouver, will receive remote customer orders thanks to technology from Vancouver-based Mobio Identity Systems Inc. The Mobio® app, available for free download in the iTunes App Store and Android Market, gives customers the freedom to order coffee on their iPhone or Android and the ease of picking it up piping hot from their nearest Ethical Bean Xpress café…

The introduction of mobile ordering is just the latest advancement from the tech-savvy coffee company, which launched its own iPhone app this summer. “When it comes to technology, we see endless possibilities for the coffee industry,” says Lloyd Bernhardt, Co-Founder of Ethical Bean Coffee. “Mobile ordering is the logical next step to offer our customers the best possible service and the freshest of coffee.”

Mobio® uses open source QR codes that allow for anywhere transactions. Ethical Bean’s QR codes are located on pocket-sized cards and available for pick up at any Ethical Bean Xpress location. The QR codes will also be found in ad placements in and around Vancouver Skytrain stations.

<a

Using the Mobio® app, simply scan an Ethical Bean QR code and you’ll be automatically directed to the Ethical Bean store, where you can order hot and cold drinks, food, even whole coffee bags. Once your order is confirmed it will be charged to your chosen credit card and sent via your smartphone to Ethical Bean Xpress, where baristas will begin crafting your custom coffee. Mobio® orders will be ready for pick up in the Mobio Express Line at the chosen Ethical Bean Xpress location.

Ethical Bean is currently the only coffee company in Canada to offer the Mobio® ordering option.

About Ethical Bean
<p

Nema’s inspiration was the famous space-station stewardess scene from 2001. It’s just like the trippy feeling one gets after one too many espressos on an empty stomach. But it’s also a clever way to gain word-of-mouth buzz and an easy-to-Google location (“sideways library coffee shop,” anyone?) . According to a story in the New York Times, the owner plans to carry on the gimmick as a marketing tool, saying that “the next one will be [completely] upside down.” Like Starbucks, turned on its ear — perfect for creating an identifiable brand in an age where coffee shops are often interchangeable.

<p
