“We’re Gonna Be In The Hudson”: USA Flight 1549 Reconstructed

November 18, 2009

Via Presurfer comes this incredible 3D reconstruction of US Airways Flight 1549, the hella lucky plane that made a successful emergency water landing in New York’s Hudson river last January after a flock of birds knocked out both engines.

Of all available audio tracks, only two are used, La Guardia Tower and New York TRACON Departure controller position. Radar data as well as the onboard Flight Data Recorder are utilized in constructing the flightpath of the aircraft.

Chilling stuff.

What You Could Get For The Same Price As A 1973 Chevy Nova

The Yike Bike was released today. Invented by Kiwis and powered by an electric motor, it goes up to 6 miles on a half hour recharge and folds up nice and easy. It might be extra light, just 10kgs, but the price is wicked heavy: $4,500 (USD) for the entry level version.

Extra credit: how long before we see our spandex Mayor zipping around on one of these?
