Famed Oscar Wilde Play To Be Performed “Amongst The Vines”

A tidy package of wine was dropped off at my home today from the good folks at Naramata’s Township 7. I immediately stashed away their ’07 Merlot and ’07 Syrah, but have just popped their ’09 Sauvignon Blanc after a chill in the fridge. It’s a lovely caramel wash of fruit salad, which I’ve paired with the closest things on hand: asparagus wrapped in wild boar proscuitto and some cookies that my wife just baked.

While I appreciate the bottles very much, what really caught my attention was a letter that was included from the proprietor, Mike Raffan. In it, he detailed what sounded like a terrific series of evenings, dubbed Wilde at the Winery. From August 27th to mid-September, Township 7 will be playing host to Twisted Tree Theatre and their performance of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, which just so happens to be one of my favourite plays.

The players will be acting in an “open air setting amongst the vines,” he writes in his invitation, which is about as sweet a tease as I can think of, as we’re leaving for Naramata late tonight to steal all the food on offer at tomorrow’s Okanagan Feast of Fields.

Sadly, we’re returning on the night of the 27th, so we’ll have to miss the opening night performance. But that doesn’t mean you have to. If you’re up there enjoying the last licks of summer, take a look with a picnic and a bottle of your own. Tickets for these memorable nights are going for just $20.
