Vancouver, BC | Made-to-order dishes, cocktails, and dessert jars are just a few highlights in The Lazy Gourmet’s new 2013 spring and summer catering menu. “This year, what we really wanted to highlight was how fresh catering can be,” explains Kevin Mazzone, General Manager of The Lazy Gourmet. “Our chefs are working hard in the background to create every canapé and dish, but our guests often don’t see this. Therefore, for example, instead of just having chips and salsa sitting on a table, why not do something different like a made-to-order guacamole bar? People enjoy customizing, and it’s very interactive.” In addition to the guacamole bar, The Lazy Gourmet is introducing a taco bar, where guests can make their own tacos with barbeque-marinated pork or chicken. Other new items include one-bite appetizers such as the Greek cucumber cups with black olive dust, sweet Thai chili fish cakes with lemongrass shallot relish, tuna poke on toasted nori crackers with radish matchstick and sprout, beef sausage with sourkraut and mustard on crispy herb spaetzle, and crispy cauliflower sliders. Vancouver, BC | The Lazy Gourmet, one of Vancouver’s long-standing catering and event companies, is pleased to announce that chef Brad Hendrickson has joined its kitchen team as executive sous chef this month. His stellar culinary background will allow him to be creative with ingredients for many of The Lazy Gourmet’s menus and dishes for parties as small as 10 and as large as 3,000. Hendrickson was most recently the executive chef at Dale MacKay’s Ensemble Tap, and restaurant chef at Ensemble. He previously sharpened his knives at Lumiere, New York’s Gilt, and Daniel Boulud’s celebrated Daniel restaurant. “We are thrilled to welcome Brad to The Lazy Gourmet family,” says Kevin Mazzone, General Manager of The Lazy Gourmet. “Brad is a dedicated, talented, and hardworking chef with a host of ideas to further elevate the level of our dishes. They will manage up to 25 cooks while putting in food orders, receiving products and managing the schedule. They will work with the Sales team to create new and exciting menus for our private, corporate and university clients while managing costing. The Sous Chef is the “face of the kitchen” to a lot of our clients and we expect him/her to occasionally go to our clients homes, businesses, boats or venues to manage the food service. Anything from a breakfast for 10 to a gala for 750, the Sous Chef will be a part of the process the entire way. Our services’ encompass everything from morning baking to fully produced sit down dinners for 800. Quality ingredients, sustainability and the highest level of service have been ingrained in the DNA of the company since 1979 when owner, Susan Mendelson opened its doors as Vancouver’s first catering company.

After a 30-year tenure of delighting Vancouver with a bistro and up to four locations at one time, we now focuses on catering and producing events. Our take out program consists of items such as our house-made lasagna, cookie dough and other specialty items.

Sustainability is one of the main pillars in our philosophy and includes making sure that everything we do has the environment in mind. This means that everything in the front and back of house has a plan of action to reduce our carbon footprint and make sure that the items we serve our guests are local and the best quality. Being a part of the Ocean Wise program helps us regulate the seafood items we use and The Green Table Network assists in reducing the energy we consume and products we use that have a negative impact on the world around us.

The story our food tells is one rooted in true West Coast flavors spanning the past 30 years of food culture in Vancouver. Using only the finest ingredients we find local suppliers that can guarantee its freshness and eco-friendliness.

The secret to the Lazy Gourmet’s success is our people and their drive for un-compromised excellence. We are a tough and determined group who work to ensure that we always remain true to our origins.

These origins can be found in Susan Mendelson herself, as she is vigorous and graciously generous. This has created a robust and seasoned staff whose single-mindedness for quality and contagious hospitality is as distinctive and inviting as Vancouver itself.
