Riley has skillfully created a West Coast Pacific Rim style menu that is elegant, refined and delightfully surprising.
We source many of our ingredients from local purveyors on the Sunshine Coast or on our own,” says Ryan Schmidt, Manager at Painted Boat. “This includes organic produce from Henry Reed Organics farm, Three Sisters Organic Farm, and Green Room Organics Farm located in Gibsons, BC, sturgeon caviar and meat from Northern Divine in Sechelt, BC, organic sable fish from Totems Farm in Jervis Inlet, BC, as well as local wild mushrooms and sea asparagus foraged by Chef Riley.”
Complementing the regional menu is our gold medal winning wine list from the Vancouver International Wine Awards. Handpicked by Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts Wine Director, Brad Royale, the wine menu has been selected from across the globe in hopes of providing a well-rounded selection of unique offerings. Already known for its creative coastal cuisine at The Restaurant, Bugoy has skillfully paired his innovative fervor for modern cooking techniques with his ability to create delectable French inspired dishes in developing a new menu. Whet your appetite with Ocean Wise coastal delights such as Albacore Tuna “Crudo” garnished with squid ink aioli, an egg yolk emulsion, chives and radish or a Tian of Dungeness Crab featuring avocado, cucumber and local petit greens drizzled in a lemon mustard emulsion. Savour delectable Lobster Tortellini served amidst fava beans, a warm tarragon vinaigrette and lobster, but save room for a refreshing dessert. Read more

Sunshine Coast | Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts’ Sunshine Coast property, Painted Boat Resort, is excited to be a part of the 4th Annual Sunshine Coast Mushroom Festival. The Restaurant at Painted Boat will be hosting an evening on October 20th at 6:30pm that will feature a mushroom-themed supper created by Calgary’s Divino Wine & Cheese Bistro chef John Donovan. Each course will be paired with wines from Laughing Stock Vineyard in the Okanagan. Tickets are $90 per person, and pre-registration is required. Painted Boat Resort is managed by Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts and is located on BC’s Sunshine Coast, Northwest of Vancouver.
Take the Horseshoe Bay Ferry to Langdale, which will take 40 minutes. To Pender Harbour from Langdale, it’s a 50 minute drive. Take Highway 101 North and follow the signs to Sechelt. Look for the sign to the Madeira Park turn-off 20 minutes past Sechelt. The sign is on the right. Turn left at the painted fish boat, then follow the signs to Painted Boat Resort Spa & Marina.

Boasting over 27 years of culinary experience, Chef Michael Riley brings valuable leadership and culinary skills to the team at Painted Boat Resort Spa and Marina. Riley’s career has run the gamut from executive chef at various fine restaurants and resorts to restaurant owner, film industry catering chef as well as culinary instructor. Upon graduating from Dubrulle Culinary Institute in 1986, Riley began his career working with some of Vancouver’s finest chefs at notable restaurants such as Bridges, The Teahouse, Seasons, Culinary Capers Catering, Café de Paris, The Mandarin Hotel, The Wedgewood Hotel and Canadian Mountain Holidays Heli-Ski Bugaboos Resort.
Riley has worked as an Executive Chef at Hornby Island Resort (1997 – 2000), Papi’s Ristorante
(2000-2002), Café De Paris (2002-2003), The Club in Gibsons Landing, where he was also the owner (2003 – 2006), and Le Bistro Paris (2010 – 2011). From 2004 to 2012 Riley also worked as a Catering Chef for various film production crews and most recently worked as the Chef Tournant and Pastry Chef at Adesso Ligurian Bistro (2013 to present).
Passionate about using local ingredients from the Sunshine Coast, Riley can be found foraging
for wild mushrooms in the forest or collecting sea asparagus via kayak. Harvested throughout
the year, one can be sure that foraged edibles will be included in Riley’s perfectly plated farm to table dishes. A fan of social media, Riley, can be found posting photos on his Flickr site as well as on the Painted Boat’s Instagram account @PaintedBoatResort.

The Restaurant at Painted Boat highlights the freshest seafood in our signature creative coastal cuisine. Chef Riley ensures that the local produce and seafood are served in new and delicious ways, while our Wine Director has carefully selected unique boutique wines to complement the creative menu. The restaurant has a warm interior and a bright patio which offers stunning views of the resort’s marina. The well-appointed, 70-seat bistro features tiger bamboo flooring, espresso tables and chocolate brown leather chairs to ensure maximum comfort for patrons.
We also feature a lounge available for private dinners of 6-12 guests, and a meeting space is available for weddings or conferences which may seat up to 120 guests.
THE RESTAURANT at Painted boat has become a popular haunt with locals and visitors alike; our patrons seem to enjoy taking in the stunning view along with a glass of carefully chosen wine.
Each villa at Painted Boat Resort offers modern furnishings and a large patio or balcony with a water view, as well as a kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and two bathrooms. The fitness facility, infinity pool and hot tub overlook the ocean and are the perfect spots to admire the view. Kayak rentals are available on-site, and there are a myriad of local hiking and biking trails. The scuba diving in the area is known internationally and a popular draw for visitors from around the world.
The fully-appointed luxury spa has seven treatment rooms, hydrotherapy room, glacial clay room, aesthetics facility and Spa Garden to enjoy at your leisure. The spa garden is a unique experience, offering guests the chance to relax in various hot and cold pools, in a steam room and under a waterfall.
