“Latitude” Opening Soon On Main Street
April 4, 2009
Lisa Henderson and Larry Nicolay, former owners of Tofino’s superb Raincoast Café, are opening a new restaurant at 3250 Main St. called Latitude. Located in the old Budapest Restaurant spot, the totally redone room will see 46 seats with a 6 seat marble bar and a small patio out front. The design is coming courtesy of Evoke ID, the design firm responsible for such Vancouver rooms as Glowbal, Sanafir, The Cascade Room, and the new Irish Heather (Evoke principal David Nicolay is Larry’s younger brother). I’ve been told that we can expect plenty of walnut, concrete, and marble in a modern space. The concept is wine-forward, with 15 whites and reds by the glass picked from the Americas (from BC all the way down to Chile and Argentina), and affordable food reflecting the same journey. Such a broad theme which will afford them quite a lot of…ahem…latitude. Read more

After 12 years in business, Tofino’s excellent Raincoast Cafe is closing.
From the Westcoaster:
TOFINO — A critically acclaimed Tofino restaurant will close it doors at month’s end following nearly 12 years in business.
The RainCoast Café, which has received positive reviews in publications like the Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Magazine and Best Places in the Northwest, will hold its final dinner service New Year’s Eve.
“It’s had a good run,” said Larry Nicolay, who co-owns the café with partner Lisa Henderson. “Our hearts [are] in Tofino, but we have to do different things for the family.”

Reviews
‘The food concept is arguably one of the best and most original on the east side…’ Andrew Morrison, Westender
‘Henderson’s menu is earthy and served bistro-style with the sort of quality lost on Main Street when Aurora closed last year.’ Mia Stainsby, Vancouver Sun
