DINER: Habit & Cascade Folks To Open New Southeast Asian Restaurant, “The Union”
September 29, 2011
by Andrew Morrison | I made mention of The Union in an “opening soon” piece for the paper many, many months ago (285 days ago to be exact), but work on it was delayed due to the typical snafus associated with brand new buildings. The restaurant, due this December (fingers crossed), is located at 219 Union St. at the foot of the new V6A building where Strathcona connects with Main St. on Union St. at the southern reach of Chinatown (next to the Jimi Hendrix shrine). The crew behind it are the same folks that brought us Habit Lounge and The Cascade further up Main, namely Nick Devine, Wendy Nicolay, Nigel Pike, David Nicolay and Rob Edmonds. Read more

The GOODS from Latitude
Vancouver, BC | Latitude re-opened with a bang last week, revealing a new bar-forward menu, succinctly complementing the Latin American-inspired cocktails. Chef Lisa Henderson has expanded upon her already popular menu with a selection of Venezuelan & Colombian street food Arepas (stuffed white corn pocket, cooked on a hot grill until crispy featuring wild prawns with arugula and smoked paprika mayo; braised beef with black bean, queso blanco and tomatillo salsa; and chorizo with avocado and tomato confit – all $4 to $6).
Nick Devine is back behind the bar, turning up the heat with an authentic Latin cocktail list, “made the way they should be made” and a large selection of tequilas, including his own habenero-infused “no gringos” concoction – if you’re game! A good selection of regional beers and wines at affordable prices round out the bar list. Full food, wine and cocktail menus availavle at latitudeonmain.com. Read more
“Latitude” On Main To Re-Open March 3rd With Expanded Menu And “Devine” Drinks
February 26, 2011
We broke the news a couple of weeks ago that Latitude was merging with The Cascade Room and Habit Lounge (it’s a family affair) and would shut down for some slight design tweaks by the room’s original aesthetes and an expansion of chef Lisa Henderson’s Pan-American menu. We’ve been told that both are coming along nicely. It seems as if the bar program is now getting the most attention. Nick Devine – who created the cocktail lists at both Habit and Cascade – has created a new cocktail list and will be behind the bar when the refreshed Latitude re-opens, serving all the classic Latin cocktails (think Margaritas, Caipirinhas, Mojitos, Batidas, Pisco Sours, Daiquiris, etc), and to complement them, Henderson is plating a selection of “bar forward” arepas dishes.
Re-opening day is scheduled for this upcoming Thursday, March 3rd.
