The restaurant’s name pays homage to the reclaimed wood materials used in the space, as well as Kitsilano’s tree-themed street names. The small, straightforward menu showcases honest Canadian fare influenced by French techniques.

The Oakwood Canadian Bistro’s food philosophy is focused on fresh, house-made dishes crafted from locally sourced products. The seasonally changing menu caters to market availability and the sustainability of the products. All meats are organic, local and free of hormones and antibiotics, while the seafood is sustainable, seasonal and Ocean Wise certified. From the breads and pastas to the butchery and sauces, all products are made in-house with quality and consistency. At the bar, guests will find an excellent selection of 11 local craft beers, classic cocktails and an expertly chosen wine list.

The Oakwood Canadian Bistro welcomes with a comfortable, down-to-earth room designed by Mike Shea, who was inspired by restaurants he has experienced on his travels. Shea worked with SSDG Interiors and master carpenter Roman Mann to help implement his vision for the 85-seat room, which features key design elements — including a 16-seat communal table — made from reclaimed fir, oak and cedar. The welcoming patio seats 15 guests. Serving fresh, honest food in a casual neighbourhood environment, this modest Kitsilano room encourages diners to gather around the central communal table with old and new friends, sip BC craft beers and linger over one of Chef Michael Robbins’ seasonally driven dishes.

————————————————-

GOODS: “Refuel” Doing Their Famous Friday Only Fried Chicken This Superbowl Sunday

Gluttony

Andrew Morrison

Kitsilano

Refuel

Scout Magazine
<guid

Zulu Report: Everything That You Should Listen To This Week

Culture

Kitsilano

Nic Bragg

Scout Magazine

Vancouver Events

Vancouver Music

Zulu Records

Zulu Report
<guid

Nothing quite captures the existentialism of an early morning shopping trip for a sweet pair of Grenson lace up brogue work boots like the strangely eerie electronic meditations of Brooklyn based experimental producer Daniel Lopatin a.k.a. Oneohthix. Occupying the space in between the dreamy synth ambience of 80’s cinematic scores and the stark piano compositions of Philip Glass, Lopatin’s Replica is an absorbing listen (especially on headphones). His use of crackling fuzztones adds a sense of texture to the slowly paced tracks, which seductively entice one into a deeper listening experience and a rich sonic universe. Last weekend we had this on in the shop while Videomatica screened Blade Runner and the music really meshed with surreal Ridley Scott’s surreal realm of replicants and bounty hunters. So, lace up your boots, trudge through the early morning rain and enjoy Replica’s moment frozen in time.<span

For some reason people naturally assume that they are from the land of all things twee – Scotland! They must be sick of this erroneous assumption. Anyway, as a person who recently had the great fortune to pass some time in a remote field smack in the heart of Welsh sheep country, I can honestly tell you that Wales is actually the epitome of twee romanticism! Yes, we are talking majestic natural beauty, misty moors, and perfectly quaint thatched roof villages that only offer pubs, bookstores, and those strange little shops dedicated to slow food sundries. And trust me, underneath the grand oaks of Wales there are perfect napping spots after a massive session with the local cider. Anyway, after a quick listen to this quixotic new track from Los Campesinos! one could safely argue that they are more on top of the twee pop game than Belle and Sebastian and the rest of the Scottish bands! Tickets are moving fast and the Electric Owl is sure to be packed to the rafters for this one.

The Glance

Sat Jan 21 EXCISION – GOSSIP<br
