Seen In Vancouver #396: Lunch With Joy Road & JoieFarm At Le Marche St. George

September 14, 2012

by Michelle Sproule | When three of your favourite things all come together at once it’s like a rare planetary alignment. You just sit there and enjoy the moment, knowing that it probably won’t happen again in your lifetime. One of these especially uncommon occurrences took place this week when Heidi Noble and Michael Dinn of JoieFarm arranged a media luncheon to introduce their outstanding 2010 Vintage Reserve Series (love that Pinot Noir). Chefs Dana Ewart and Cameron Smith of the Okanagan’s Joy Road Catering were on hand to pair their always marvellous “cuisine de terroir” with the wines, and it all went down in the charming suite above Le Marche St. George. Have a look and a taste…

HONOUR BOUND: Get Together In Support Of Sean Hamilton At The Old Boneta Space

As many in the local food and wine trade are aware, industry lifer Sean Hamilton is going through a battle with cancer. Naramata winery JoieFarm and the good folks at Boneta are organising a fundraiser for him. Here are the details, as supplied by JoieFarm’s Michael Dinn:

A cancer fundraiser is being thrown on behalf of a dear friend and colleague, Sean Hamilton, on Sunday June 24th at the old Boneta space from 7 pm – midnight.  Many of you know Sean from his time as a waiter, bartender, manager and restaurant owner over the past 20+ years. He is going through his second bought of cancer in the past 5 years and has been out of work for a year. Our goal is to cover his expenses for at least the next year so that he does not have to deal with financial stress while he works on getting better. We want to get as many of his friends and colleagues as possible out to the event so I am asking you to attend and/or forward this email or this facebook link:  https://www.facebook.com/events/321297984622183/  to as many of his friends and former colleagues that you know.

We are also looking for gift certificates and silent auction items so if you are able to help, please email me back and I will arrange for pickup or you can deliver it to the office of The Storeroom, 1396 Richards Street, Vancouver (hours 9 am – 7 pm M-F and 9-5 Sat & Sun). Let them know that it is for the JoieFarm fundraiser.  If you would like to contribute directly but are unable to attend, please email me back and I will give you instructions on how to do so.

An application is in processs with the BC Hospitality Foundation and we hope to receive matching funds of up to $5000 from them as well.

Please do what you can to spread the word. We hope to see many Scout readers there.

Naramata, BC | JoieFarm is proud to announce that our 2010 Rosé has been awarded Best Rosé Wine in Show at the 30th Annual Riverside International Wine Competition in Temecula, California. Wine Judge Mitch Cosentino, owner/winemaker of pureCos Wines, described the wine as “Young, fresh with aromatic notes of banana that makes this a classic Pinot Noir Rose. Bright and balanced with pure fruit flavors!”

Forty-seven judges from around the United States, mainly wine makers, wine journalists, and wine merchants, evaluated approximately 2000 wines over a three-day period. For 30 years, the Riverside International Wine Competition has provided consumers and the wine industry with carefully considered results of a blind tasting by professional wine evaluators. A key benefit of this event is to recognize wines in a wide variety of styles, including wine regions that don’t often get such recognition. Further details after the jump… Read more
