We’ve invited Le Parisien - brand new to the West End - to join our GOODS section as a recommended local restaurant. They’re now proud members of Scout, and as such we will be posting their news in addition to hosting a page for them on our awesome, curated list of independent goodnesses. About Le Parisien

Le Parisien is brought to you by Vancouver’s own French chevalier, John Blakeley, who also owns Kitsilano’s Bistro Pastis. Le Parisien brings the flavours of Paris’ Left Bank to Vancouver’s West End.

Executive Chef Tobias Grignon has mined France’s classic bistro repertoire to bring the best of the best to Le Parisien’s menus – roasted bone marrow, roast chicken for two, cassoulet, boudin noir, croque monsieur, moules et frites, côte de boeuf , oysters, omelettes and tartare three ways – all this and much more will satisfy any appetite seeking the authentic taste of France. Le Parisien’s prices also reflect the French bistro ethos of good food at reasonable prices – you’ll find Le Parisien is kind to the budget and the pocketbook.

Whether enjoying a leisurely lunch, meeting for drinks after work, lingering over a divine dinner or catching up with friends over brunch, you’ll find yourself immediately transported to Paris’ Left Bank. With Le Parisien’s authentic fare and Gallic atmosphere, you’ll experience your own Midnight in Paris moments. Cue the Trénet soundtrack.

Vancouver, BC | Angry mob creates havoc in the streets – sound familiar? Only in this case, the mob overthrew a government, cost a king his head and created a modern democracy in the process. For more than 200 years the French have been celebrating the storming of the Bastille and ‘le quatorze juillet’ as a national holiday – a time of community dinners with friends and neighbours sharing good food and bottles of wine. Vancouver’s very own authentic corner of France, Bistro Pastis in Kitsilano, has become celebration central with its annual Fête de la Bastille – a tradition that goes back since the restaurant first opened its doors. Vancouver, BC | In many cultures around the world the age of 12 is considered an important year. The 12th birthday marks the transition from childhood to adulthood – the ‘coming of age’ year. Twelve years ago, on May 7th, Kitsilano saw the birth of ‘un charmant restaurant Français’ – Pastis. Like any pre-teen, Pastis had its share of ‘growing pains’ and transformed from a fine-dining room into Bistro Pastis – a cosy, neighbourhood bistro serving unpretentious French fare. Read more

Vancouver, BC | Join us August 26 through September 22 as Bistro Pastis concludes its culinary ramble through France in the Auvergne and Gascony. The Massif Central, the rugged terrain of central France, informs the flavours of this region. Here are fast flowing streams fed by the Alps and sparse hills where sheep graze. Flavours here are big, bold and rustic. Look for Trout, succulent Lamb and Duck Confit. The dinner, like the season, ends with a touch of sweetness as you linger over a final digestif and relish the last of the red wine-marinated strawberries. As our summer draws to a close, you’ll be left with many happy memories of your virtual culinary tour through France and its Cuisine d’ Été. Find out all the details after the jump… Read more

Vancouver, BC | Join us August 5 through 25 as Cuisine d’Été travels to Provence – the land where summer never ends and the sunsets are as rosy as its wine. This area is the home to Bistro Pastis’ namesake aperitif – Pastis, the anise-flavoured beverage favoured in countries around the Mediterranean.

Summer in Provence features ‘les fruits de mer’ – Sardines, Red Snapper, Calamari; as well as regional classics such as Daube de Boeuf. Pair with a glass or two of citrusy rosé or hearty red and in no time, you will find yourself transported to a café on La Croisette or a port-side bistro in Marseille.

Summer evenings were made for lingering over good food and good wine with good friends. We invite you to enjoy a summer evening in Provence at Bistro Pastis. Menu after the jump… Read more
