ABOUT HEARTBREAKER SALON
The roots | Heartbreaker salon is a direct extension of its owner, Deandra Vaughn – a welcoming, unpretentious, no nonsense zone where you can expect to get quality service and a unique and memorable hairdressing experience.
As one of Vancouver’s top stylists, Deandra started her career dyeing people’s hair in her basement when she was 14. In her 16 years working in salons, she’s amassed a loyal and lengthy client list as a result of her honest and straightforward approach to fostering relationships.
The vision | In 2010, Deandra decided to take her passion and ideals, along with her rugged but compelling style, and combine them into a salon space. She wanted to open a spot that wasn’t just about how good you felt leaving with a fresh cut, but also about how great you felt the whole time you were there. The result is Heartbreaker.
The spot | Located in the centre of the burgeoning Fraser-Kingways strip, Heartbreaker is a place where everyone can feel part of something special. As one of the first businesses to open along the up-and-coming Kingsway strip, it’s now the heart of a close-knit community of independently owned restaurants and boutiques. Distancing itself from the typical sterilized-salon look, Heartbreaker feels more like a rustic country cabin, accented with reclaimed wood and homemade dream catchers. It also offers perks, not typically associated with hair salons: Customers old enough to drink are invited to have a free beer with their cut, colour or highlights and dogs are welcome to sit alongside while their owners get pampered (as long as they’re well-behaved).
The mission | Heartbreaker is dead set on giving its customers personable, professional and affordable services. Stylists at Heartbreaker are carefully considered to make sure they fit in with the salon’s pace and add to its impeccable reputation. As a result, clients feel equally at ease chatting their stylist’s ear off as they do simply sitting in silence while getting their hair done. It’s all about making the customer feel good. While all stylists have been trained extensively in different techniques and methods, they each bring a range of experience, which cater to the client’s price point.
The commitment | The salon’s commitment to high standard is clear in the products it carries. Heartbreaker exclusively uses Davines, a family-owned Italian company that ties beauty and sustainability together along with modern technology and high quality. It’s a formula that can also be applied to the salon’s ethics: Heartbreaker is a certified Green Circle salon, which means it recycles or repurposes 100% of its hair waste. Hair, foils, chemicals, colour tubes, plastics and paper, all go on to live happy second lives.
The future | The staff at Heartbreaker is genuinely happy to welcome new clients. See for yourself what a difference it makes when your haircut experience is equally as good as the final result.
